Hold it. It has always been like that: if the quality is much too high, it just crashes without '!' warnings. Well, if you believe you can beat it, keep fighting!

especially as I just checked this against the A720 dump  / code and can't find any bugs.

If this has always been this way, then great, we have a winner.
(If we don't find any other problems)

I've been testing the camera and I don't see any other problems for now. It seems pretty stable. If I find anything I'll give a reply. Thanks again OldGit for what you're doing, and I'm glad I can be of any help.  :)

I just had a look to get the 100 E firmware downloaded from the drop IO but I seem to have a problem locating it.
If you or anyone else has a copy of the 100E dump could someone let me know.
Edit: Forget that, I have it now.

If all is well with this by the weekend I should be able to put the patch together and it can loaded to the main trunk.

My A590IS (101b)  doesn't crash when I use the 99 quality setting.

Everything looks normal, zoom works, af key, and mute does too.

out of interest, what card /class are you using.
I have been told that a class 6 (with low level format) is required for the best results.

I'm using a SanDisk SDHC 8GB Class 2 Card.

Ver. 4 firmware (only diskboot.bin)

- optical zoom working
- mute mic working
- af key, working

(canon own menu set to best video mode)
- bitrate working! tested 0.25x-3x (SanDisk 2Gbyte Class 2 SD card)
- quality 1-98 working!, 99 crash (SanDisk 2Gbyte Class 2 SD card)

(canon own menu set to best video mode, full set of chdk + new diskboot.bin)
- bitrate working! tested 0.25x-3x (Maxell 4Gbyte Class 6 SD card)
- quality 1-98 working!, 99 crash or working, not stable. (Maxell 4Gbyte Class 6 SD card)

(canon own menu set to best video mode, full set of chdk + new diskboot.bin)
- bitrate working! tested 0.25x-3x (PQI 1Gbyte no Class mark, Micro SD card with SD card adapter)
- quality 1-98 working!, 99 crash or working or red "!' mark on the LCD, not stable. (PQI 1Gbyte no Class mark, Micro SD card with SD card adapter)

(canon own menu set to best video mode)
- bitrate working! tested 0.25x-1,75 more speed red "!' mark on the LCD after few second recorded (Canon 32Mb original SD, no Class mark )
- quality 1-95 working!, more quality red "!' mark on the LCD,after few second recorded (Canon 32Mb original SD, no Class mark)

I think the error depend on write speed of card. For low quality media, i recommend max. 95 quality or max. 1,75x bitrate. For best quality card i recommended max. 98 quality or any bitrate. This is not a long time test and depend on my camera and available SD card.

and it looks like good news.  :D

I will now update the 100 E code in the same way, then produce a patch.
Should take me a a day or so
(work always gets in the way).  :haha

I will post the patch into this thread so it can be loaded into the trunk.

Thank you all for the very fast testing and result reporting,  I would have been lost without your help.
