I created a battery and temperature tester for a590. I use with live preview and lcd on.

See the attached lua script, create the time.csv file on memory card, and the plt file (for gnuplot), and sample output image (postscript gnuplot image converted with gsview) this image attached to next message

I have some questions, this script working normal with record mode, or play mode, but with record video, the camera crashing. The live preview working, but all key lost, the camera not ready for user input. No way to off camera with key, must be remove the battery. Why?

The script record the value to file, the index and the temperature always ok, the voltage tricky. The chdk screen is ok, but in the file 99%-ok. For example 2.20->2.15->2.10->2.20->2.05-2.00  Why not linear the output file? I think use the older value. The main chdk voltage screen is ok (the average error 1-2digit only). See the graph, the line fat, but temperature ok.

@mngc, thanks for posting the graph and script. I think that for
now your only solution to the power problem is to have an extra
pair of good batteries with you. I get 200+ pictures (shooting raw)
 with my A590IS on a single charge.

My only complaint about the camera is noise, especially beyond
iso 200.  Dynamic range can also be a problem, but having chdk
helps. I wish I could control this better from chdk.

@dvip

Thanks yout reply. I have two good quality accu pack. Currently no time to full test. Previous test depend on a not fully charged accu. (approx. 2.5hour running time with record mode live lcd preview, this is good). With your battery you can create 200 picture. But with same battery, when use not fully new battery, you can record for example 150 picture continiusly with new battery, and off the camera. Now try record more picture. Often the camera switch off (need to battery change), or record 10 picture.
Of course, second example, canon bug, your battery not empty. 40-50 picture hidden capacity in your battery. Try low temperature, the result badly. I use extreme high quality cells, normal quality cells not working with canon camera. Battery same, extreme high quality required.

Dvip and others can you post accu or battery data with your camera?

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a bug, but when you delete
a jpg from the Canon menu it doesn't always delete the
corresponding raw file. Also, I like using the Canon menu to
delete all files but sometimes some raw files are not deleted.
Is this a bug?

Using chdk's  File Browser always works but it takes more steps
to get there.

I believe the canon function to delete the jpg will simply not see the raw, and then it stays there forever. I tested this in the A590 and SX110 and it is the same.

anyway I do not shoot raw on any compact.

The canon firmware will delete the corresponding raw under some circumstances. This depends on the extension and/or prefix. I did some detailed testing, but I get internal server error when I try to search so I can't find the thread right now

Another factor is that a restart of the camera may be required before the canon firmware even notices that the raws are there.

Is any of this a bug ? Maybe, but it's basically just exposing the existing behavior of the canon firmware, CHDK isn't doing any of this explicitly. It would be nice to figure out how to make it see the files right away, rather than needing a restart.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

-- A590IS underwater use of alt button --

I just tested the use of the Display button for underwater use:

Miscellaneous stuff -> <ALT> mode button [Display]

I think this can be added to the trunk.

fe50,
Thanks for adding the new Alt button function (Display button for underwater use) to the trunk.
It works great!

@fe50 and @ultimA,
I just tested a590-101b-0.9.9-928-full.zip.
Deleted cchdk.cfg and zebra works great.
