cyro,

When I set 'save RAW' on my S3 I get both jpegs and raw files (saved to different folders). Are you sure no .crw files are being created somewhere?

@vinmar: Yes, I'm sure. I just double checked this (searched the card), but anyway, I had set the 'RAW file in Dir with JPG', too. There is no delay after shooting either, as you would expect with writing the amount of data of a RAW file - and my card is just 'class 2', the debug benchmark saying it's capable of writing about 3MB/s.

Changes:

- saving RAW files now works. Cant verify the output though cos i have to photoshop plugin at the moment. anyone?
- Video recording: zoom unlocked; it finally shows some stats-kb/s-time; however, video recording code is not reliable.

Know bugs:
- doesnt show live histogram when set on "both" (only in "shoot")
- battery values, clock and free space show up only when in "osd layout editor" ?????? have no clue for this.

edit: attachment removed. see next posts.

@ma_jk: If you can upload a RAW file somewhere I could test your file against the GIMP plugin, which uses dcraw.

I don't have an actual USB remote trigger at hand, though.
...
This is off CHDK-specific topic, but do you (or anybody) know where to get/how to make a shutter release cable for the A590IS? (while we're waiting for a ported beta for firmware 1.01B )
Reference to a source would be much appreciated.

Good idea. I could check with UFRaw.

@ma_jk:
Thanks for the great work!

That's exactly what I have read, and which has lead me to think the 'plugging-into-computer' might generate a similar signal to that of connecting a 3V battery.

RAW saving works, I can view the files (e.g. with 'LightBox' or 'Qtpfsgui'). Sadly, my camera shuts down after each RAW shot. It shoots, the blue shortcut LED lights up while the display is going dark, and after a second or two the cam slightly clicks and is off. I can startup it again afterwards without problems, but it's a bit annoying  ::)

@ gho - Thanks for link to the USB shutter wiki.

@ cyro - A 3V battery may not be enough. e.g.: the A570IS is reported to need 4.5V
ref: CameraFeatures - CHDK Wiki

In whichever case, I need to wait (patiently) for a build usable with firmware version 1.01B.
My usage is for mounting my A590IS with lens adapter tube to T-mount to eyepiece on a birding scope on a tripod where camera shake is a major problem due to narrow FoV.  Also focus is an issue so I will be seeking a script to give me a burst of pics with incrementally differing focus nearer and farther from the starting point - a DoF stack if you will.
But this is another topic which I should pursue elsewhere.
Thanks for the tips, folks.  :)   -fg-
