I haven't tried the built-in focus-step in SDM yet.
I'm trying to look for a way in which I don't touch the camera during the process.
It would be nice to have this in chdk.

chdk is not removing dead pixels anymore from DNGs on my A590is.  But JPGs come out  fine.
 

I have:

Dark Frame Subtraction [On]
Bad pixel removal [Averag.]
DNG format [.]

I created the bad pixel file from the chdk menu and it seems smaller than when it was created with the lua script.

I am using:

590-101b-0.9.9-1054-full.zip

Could it be a problem with the new version and badpixel.bin?
In years using it I have never had a problem with this.

I am hoping it's something that can be fixed from chdk's menu?
Any tips will help.

I did more testing and the problem seems to occur only when using the DNG format:

DNG format [.]


If I don't select that no problem.

The only thing is that I love using DNGs, since you get a file with some Exif information and WB.

Any ideas?

More testing on this...

It works fine on DNGs when using:

Dark Frame Subtraction [Auto]

and

Dark Frame Subtraction [Off]

But I always kept it before at

Dark Frame Subtraction [On]


Which should always remove bad pixels. Correct? But it is not removing them :(

This problem was solved by re-formating the 4GB  card and re-creating the badpixel.bin file from chdk's menu.

Hi,

What's the max extra long exposures for the PowerShot A590IS? I've noticed that there is a new update for the A720IS to add extra long exposures.

One other thing (a590-101b-0.9.9-1070-full.zip), I can't get exit_alt() in lua to exit a script. For example something like this:

set_aflock(1)  -- makes AF scan and locks AF
sleep(3000)  --  wait a while
shoot()   -- shoot without AF
sleep(3800)
set_aflock(0)  -- unlock AF
exit_alt()

gets stuck and I need to enter <alt> mode and then press the shutter button to exit and run the script again. I'm not sure if this is something new or if the problem was always there.

A590 supports extra long exposures, up to ~2000 seconds. However, I seem to remember that other users reported black images quite a bit before that. See http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=3461.msg36362#msg36362

Not really sure how this was supposed to work in the first place, might have been broken by the script rework that happened a while back.

Thanks for the tips, reyalp.

I have tested it up to 1 min with a script and didn't have any problems.

Regarding Lua's exit_alt(), it doesn't seem to end and exit alt mode.

Sometimes the A590IS won't start when on Play Back Mode. If I switch it to Shooting Mode it starts fine any time. This seems to happen after I take some pictures.  It does not happen all the time.

Without chdk, the camera works fine so I know it isn't the camera.
