I couldn't find any forum threads with info about this (relatively) new powershot model.

Does anyone know if the Canon Powershot A1000 IS (info here) will be supported? (It seemes to be based on the digic3 chip).
I'm very impressed by this CHDK-project, so I really hope I can have fun with all the features aswell!

Thanks!

Hi evero, welcome to the forum !

Most cams that can be supported eventually will be. It all depends on the owners though: if there's many
of them with an interest in / knowledge about programming, it usually goes a lot quicker.
If you own one of these cams, you can start this process by dumping your firmware, read here Porting the CHDK - CHDK Wiki

have fun,

thanks for your reply!
I just changed my order from an A1000is to A590is. Even though the 590is ain't fully supported yet, it seemes to be much closer because of more users here. And the 590 has more manual controls originally aswell. Hopefully I can contribute some on the 590 porting instead!

Hello all, I've successfully dumped the A1000IS firmware using the CardTricks.exe tool. I was unsuccessful using udumper.exe by itself. I used the newDryos setting with the 32MB SD card that came with the camera.

I've been unsuccessful at getting the camera to show me its version using the ver.req or vers.req methods.

Firmware (4MB): (cleaned by CardTricks) http://www.leecbaker.com/canon/A1000IS.bin

I will be pursuing the porting CHDK onto this camera as I get a chance.

Yeah ! Another one bites the dust !

Your firmware version is 100A, btw (just search for 'Firmware Ver' in the dump)

PS please report your dump here: [DOWNLOAD LINKS] Firmware dumps available as well.

Done. I've started looking at porting CHDK, and my biggest obstacle so far is this- can anybody point me toward a decent, free ASM disassembler? It seems that most people are using IDA in this project, and the free version of IDA doesn't support ARM. Any ideas?

could someone who owns this camera tell me what audio bitrate video is recorded at? that seems to be a feature that is never listed in spec sheets. i have a sd600 and it records at 88kbps, which makes for extremely bad sounding videos when i take videos at concerts and such, so im looking to upgrade to either the A1000 or A2000, provided they record at a significantly higher bitrate.

Interesting , i have still not figured out how to dump the original firware off the camera yet. Could you tell me the steps you used. I also just got A1000 IS cannon (brownie :) version) .
I am using SD card that came with camera, but when i move the position to Lock camera does not boot up at all when i hit power button. Used CardTricks and formatted the card to new newDryos settings and on locking it, camera does not boot, unlocking it camera boots.

How can i got about getting the firmware off my camera ?

There is an empty.dmp file however inside the card now. Searched it for term firmware and this line appears in it.

So you got your dump !
The dumped firmware is in the empty.dmp file. Since the 1.00B dump is already available there's no need to upload yours.

Congratulations, well done since this is your first post  :)

Here's a short describtion for the dumping process, should answer remaining questions...

use a small SD card with a size of max. 1GB with cardtricks v1.43.
To check whether writing to the card is ok in Cardtricks, select your Card, press "Format as FAT", then "Make Bootable" - you should get not error messages...

Then press "NewDryOS" & read the messages...

Now remove the card from the reader and LOCK it, put it into the camera, start the cam in playback mode.
You'll see no LEDS or display messages, do not touch any buttons, do not move the camera, just wait for at least 1 or better 2 minutes. Then remove the SD card, remove & reinsert the batteries.

Insert the SD card to the card reader, start Cardtricks, select the card.
Click "Strings" -> you should get a list of strings after some seconds...
With "Clean" in Cardtricks you can remove the leading and trailing zero bytes from the dump...
