dumb question about the SX20 IS

I know this is a dumb question, but before I try it I thought I would ask.  Our company recently purchased an SX20 IS.  My boss is intrigued by the functionality of the CHDK code.  So, here it goes:

Is it evenly remotely possible, given the similarities between the SX10 and the SX20, that the SX10 CHDK would just work on the SX20?  I told him it is a LONG shot, but he wants me to try it anyway.  I know it's not that hard to format a card and try it, but I thought I'd ask here before I wasted a lot of time with it.

How long does it usually take for the CHDK to be developed for a new camera like the SX20?  I know there is no real time frame, but is it usually pretty quick (within a few weeks or a month after the camera is released) or does it usually take several months to a year?

Thanks for your help.

No, there is zero chance. Even different firmware revisions of the same camera are usually not compatible, CHDK for a different camera will not work.

Anywhere from a week or so to never. There is no schedule, no plan, and no rule of thumb. For a port to happen, someone with the skills required to do the port has to have access to the camera. They also have to have the motivation spend many hours working on the project, which usually means someone who actually owns the camera. Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thank you reyalp.  You confirmed what I already expected.  I'm fairly new at this camera stuff, but have a good bit of experience with system integration, but not a lot of experience coding.  I think I can download the firmware, but the coding part may present some problems.  The question is how much time my boss will want me to spend on it.  I already told him it will be a time consuming process.

Thanks again

Shoulda got him to get the SX10, unless he needs the HD video.
