Hello & welcome ontopofm !
all pictures came out completely blacked out when overrides is ON, pictures are fine when overrides is OFF, plus the shutter speed and aperture are still 1/3200 and f8.0 eventhough they are overridden, please point me to the right settings, thanks
With fast shutter speeds you should use the flash, without flash the images taken with very fast shutter speeds will be nearly black...the faster the shutter speed you set up in CHDK the more light you'll need !

With CHDK overrides the Canon OSD always shows the lowest / highest value for lower or higher values - the Canon firmware doesn't know the "real" CHDK values, so it reports only the original, build-in data - in the pictures EXIF data this is the same...

In the CHDK OSD menu you can enabled the CHDK OSD entries:

PS: Test your fast shutter settings by shooting a bulb

thanks fe50, are the CHDK shutter speed and aperture adjustable using the toggle switch?

You can set up the shutter speed / aperture settings in the CHDK "Extra Photo Operations" menu (see End-Users-Guide-AllBest50#Extra_Photo_Operations).

In newer CHDK versions you can additionally enable/disable overrides with a short cut (see CHDK/MoreBest#Extra_Photo_Operations) and you can use the Fast EV Switch feature to control Ev...

*Edit: You can also use the "User Menu" (see CHDK/End-Users-Guide-AllBest50#User_Menu) for faster access to the most needed settings...

when override the aperture and set it at 16 and the camera display f2.7 and Ev is 1/6, what aperture is the camera shooting?

Av=F/16. Tv or Ev correction have nothing to do with Av override, and Canon's autoexposure does not know the override is active, which will result in incorrect exposure.

And Av will only be F/16 if the camera can actually go that narrow in your particular zoom setting. If it can't, it will be the narrowest aperture the camera can achieve. If http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CameraFeatures is correct for the s5is, this is F/8 for wide angle.
