Jumpin' right in with questions...

Hi CHDK Forum!

I just learned about CHDK and installed SDM on my A710IS right away.  :)
I've been loving this camera since it was first introduced, and now it's even better!
AND... what about this:

I'm taking a series of long exposures on a tripod using manual focus?  You already know where I'm going with this, don't you??  I want to save battery power by switching off the LCD  BUT  the camera reverts to autofocus if I do. Any way to stop it from doing that? I searched for this topic but had no luck, so I'm asking.

Still reading the manual and testing features...

(may help to) prolong you battery life on motion detection, time lapse etc.

Also disabling the LCD backlight may become an option.

Manual focus doesnt necessarily reduce the power consumption, i found out that at least on the SX100 the power consumption increases when you set it to manual focus.. Autofocus + SD override might be an option. (see Power Consumption - some Measurements)

And mind if i ask, why SDM? I know its suited for general purpose too, but its called stereo data maker for a reason.. Most of the features which makes it special aren't really useful for single camera photography. I'd recommend to use CHDK instead.

Regards

SDM 1.76 (not yet released) includes some new uBasic time-lapse commands and other 'plain English' commands.

It also has enhanced bracketing features for Tv and focus.

One is 'lcd_on_off' that toggles the on/off state of the LCD screen.

If you would like to test it, send me a personal message.
