Thanks for taking the trouble of posting part of the manual ewavr, even though I DID read it. But the behavior I described does not occur if CHDK is not loaded, i.e., if I unlock the memory card, then a power button press will cause the camera to start and extend the lens right away. So the problem I described isn't normal.

If I follow reyalp's advice & hold the power button longer, it will start in the record mode, so I guess I can live with that. But the SX10 does indeed have a rec/play button.

Thanks.

fe50, thanks for the help.  However, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but can you be a bit more detailed with how to run the script?  When I select the script with func/set, nothing happens.  How do I run it?

Ok, then follow me...
- power your cam on, half-press the shutter to go to record mode
- press PRINT, then press FUNC/SET
- select "Load script from file", go 2 steps down to the TEST/ folder, press FUNC/SET
- select "BADPIXEL.LUA", press FUNC/SET
- start the script with the SHUTTER !
- wait until you see "press SET to save....."
- press FUNC/SET to store the badpixel.bin automatically in the right place

- press PRINT to leave the <Alt> mode, press PRINT again to enter <Alt> mode
- press MENU, go to the "RAW parameters", enter it with FUNC/SET
- enable the settings "Save RAW" , "DNG format" and "DNG file extension"
- press PRINT to leave the <Alt> mode again

Now RAW saving in DNG format is enabled, transfer the DNG files with a card reader...

[. . .]
- select "BADPIXEL.LUA", press FUNC/SET
- start the script with the SHUTTER !
[...]

I have Found BADPIXEL.LUA press star but I can't see the message "press SET to save.....".
I can't go to the next step that you write:

- wait until you see "press SET to save....."
- press FUNC/SET to store the badpixel.bin automatically in the right place

Hey... so I have Build 0.9.7 - 725 for SX10 firmware 1.01a on my camera.  So far I've been able to do a few things, like get a 64-second exposure of my living room in the dark (very noisy though cause somehow I had dark frame subtraction turned off), and have shot a few RAW files (but have yet to figure out how to work with them, but I see the .CRW files on the camera in the file browser).  However, I seem to be having difficulty with the ISO override.
For example, I metered at ISO 1600 (with override disabled), and it was giving me a 1/20" shutter speed at F/4.0.  Turn override on, and if I have the default camera ISO set at 1600, it meters like before, but if i set default to auto iso, hoping the CHDK override kicks in, now it's looking at around a 0.4" shutter speed or so.  To make it even more puzzling, the image at that setting is at least a stop and a half, if not two, underexposed, compared to the non-CHDK'd image.  Is there somehow something wrong with the way I'm doing it, or is the ISO override not functional in this build?  Also, when I pick a particular ISO override value, when I half-press the shutter on the camera it returns a value that's about 2/3 of a stop higher or so.  For example, to get it to tell me that it was going to use ISO 1600, I had to set CHDK up for ISO 100.
So what do I need to do to operate it properly, or is that one function that's still getting the kinks worked out?

Another thing, related to the user interface in the menus.  Often there are menu items that have dozens, if not hundreds, of options for that one menu selection.  It would be nice to be able to use the wheel to rapidly scan through those.  (My suggestion would be to use the center select button to activate the menu item, then the wheel to scan through the options, then either the center select again to save and go back to where the wheel selects the different items on the menu, or menu button to cancel the changes and go back.)

@pianoplayer88key

AFAIK all CHDK overrides bypass Canon's exposure control, so if you use them,
you'll have to correct the exposure.

I can't go to the next step that you write:

OK, let's assume you have loaded the script. Switch to shooting (REC) mode if necessary,
and make sure you see "<Alt>" at bottom center of screen
Now full press the shutter button and look at the bottom left of the screen,
that's where you'll see the scripts' messages.
Also, this script takes maybe a minute or so to run, it will shoot 2 pictures ...
So, after pressing the shutter (fully, not half !) just look, it should say:
"wait please... this will take a few seconds. Don't panic !"
than the screen will go blank -> just wait until it comes back.
Apart from the text above, it will now mention the number of bad pixels, and
below that will say: "Press set to save" You then press Func/Set and you're done.

hope that helps

Hi,
Thanks for the good work.
Can anyone confirm whether CHDK for SX10 supports overriding Shutter priority? I couldn't find it by myself.

One thing has been bothering me for quite some time. My Firmware info reports a UsmMinFreqError  using the vers.req. I don't know if it is a bad thing, because I noticed another user's similar Firmware info on an earlier comment with no reference to that. So, is it a bad thing?

Is anyone quietly working on a port for GM1.00c ?  If not, I may tackle it...

I uploaded the dump for it but haven't heard of anyone tackling it. I'm waiting patiently...and eagerly.

I have set up the build environment, and got the source... I'm working my way through the dumps of 101a vs. 100c now...
