Hi there,

I think I've got a different firmware version:
With ver.req, I get:

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS
P-ID:318D  PAL D

GM1.01B
No Error
Nov 13 2008 9:03:39                 (Edit: correct timestamp value)

Adj Ver.019.013

IS Firm Ver. 3.02
IS Param Ver. 2.03
VcmCPU Ver 0.42

With vers.req, last page changes to:

Total shoot: 150                     (Not had the camera for a week yet ;)
Zoom Retry Count: 0
Mecha Condition: 0x00000000

Yet to try snagging the firmware image.

Edit: Firmware is here: ftp://bugsplatter.id.au/chdk/sx10is-1.01b-firmware.bin.bz2

I got a 10MB image from the camera, cardtricks 1.44 stripped 760,320 lead and 2,097,152 trail zeroes, please let me know if this looks sane :D  Yes, my ftp server is very slow, someone please upload elsewhere?

Edit (2009-05-24) : I don't have the SX10 any more, it went back on warranty soon after I ripped the firmware, and I now only have the A590.

Looks fine, I'll upload to zshare and add to the firmware dumps thread.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

How many people want it has no influence on when the camera gets ported. It depends entirely on a developer with the required skill having the time and motivation. AFAIK, there has been some work done, but no one is really actively working on it. The wiki gives the current state of progress http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX10

Hi guys,

I've been searching all around and as here, i've been able to find the information about canon SX1 firmware upgrade to RAW shooting (forecasted to see the light on mid-march). Find it on SX1 forum http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,3187.0.html)

Would it be useful for CHDK developers to get this firmware update and see the differences with original SX1 firmware? Maybe it would be a nice way to enable the Raw shooting on the SX10 IS, as i'm sure that this is not due to the CMOS sensor ... nor the CCD on the SX10 .. it's only an internal software with differences...

Is there an option to check a firmware to find differences with another version?

Thanks in advance from Valencia (Spain).. I'm very pleased to find this mega interesting web, and to know that many people dedicates their time to improve software for Canon powershots, while it benefits many other people.

Mi SX10 IS is also NTSC, not pal (it was bought through ebay from USA, maybe that's the reason)

The canon firmware update isn't even released, but you're sure you know what the difference is ?

You are correct that the sensor doesn't matter... any camera that exposes raw to the main CPU memory can save raw, and every canon analyzed so far does.

There is pretty much zero chance that the changes from the SX1 could somehow be easily ported to the SX10. It might provide some interesting clues, but that's about it.

An option ? Yes, it's called a whole bunch of hard work.

AFAIK the difference is in a default setting, not the actual firmware. On most cameras you can select NSTC or PAL output.

Hi there Reyalp.

Thanks for your answer, what I said about the NTSC was looking some details with the vers.file that indicates NTSC instead PAL, but it doesnt' matter since the camera works perfectly and i never connect it to the TV.

I would like to help but I wonder it's not a easy work and i never touched any kind of programation so i think it would be a terrible work starting from zero knowdlege.

Anyway dude I will wait in case there's any advance on the investigation.

Thanks all for your effort in the evolution of this camera.

Regards,

Angel

Can someone set up a Paypal donation page, for this?  Like a prize for whoever gets CHDK working with the SX10.  I'll put in 20 bucks if others are willing to pitch in a few bucks too.  Could motivate someone into putting a bit more work into it.  I'd help myself if I knew how to program anything more complicated than a PIC micro controller.

I think part of the problem is there are no developers who own an SX10? I just bought one and have to say it a nice camera. Maybe a collection should be taken up to buy a SX10 camera for a serious developer to use for their development work? If 12 persons all contribute $28 (US) ($339 at B&H Photo) we could buy a camera for development. The developer would keep the camera as their reward for all their hard work. Just a thought. I would be game to help speed up the development process. Any takers?
