Thanks for updates, but something is wrong with the latest rev. 1.4.0-3836-full on my ixus115. 3831 was OK.

 ;)

Thanks for the report. The change I made in 3836 builds differently on GCC 4.8 that I was using and the earlier version used by the autobuild server.

Should be fixed in revision 3838.

Text is fine with  revision 3838, thanks again... but a lot of (previously working) scripts crash at start up or crash the camera, even if on a plain chdk setup.

Can you post a sample script that crashes, and also dump the ROMLOG on the camera and post it please.

The script system has had some major changes (especially for Lua) - some issues are possible; but I would not have thought the changes would cause camera crashes.

Phil.

I was experiencing camera crashes when rev.3831 was updated to 3838 with the "small zip" package.
Romlogs from ixus 115 and 117 attached.

With a full and plain 3838 setup script crashes were related to "lua native calls" disabled ... my bad, sorry for wrong report. By enabling "lua native calls" 3838 seems fine.

Disabling 'lua native calls' should not crash the camera (AFAIK).
Does it also crash on version 1.3?

Can you post a script that does this so I can test on my cameras please.

Attached a slight modded version of CHDKPlus from WW.
It runs fine on 1,4 rev.3831, crashes on rev.3838 if Lua native calls are disabled.
I'm just a bit confused with these "news".
Are you sayng that i'have to "adapt" all my scripts ?

I think you need to be more specific about "crashes".  Does the camera actually hang up / reset?  Or does the script simply not work?

At the moment,  CHDK 1.4.0 is being treated as a very unstable branch for development purposes.  Things can and will change at any time.  While the ultimate goal will be to provide backwards compatibility for older scripts so that they continue to run,  that might not happen from update to update.   Unlike the 1.3.0 development process,  1.4.0 is actually being allowed to be unstable just like the name says.    The intention is to make bold changes, stabilize them, and then do an update to 1.4.0 as stable prior to people needing to use an unstable version for the features they want.

When it comes time to move 1.4.0 to stable status and release it,  there will be serious conversation about any changes that break old scripts.  It will take a lot of justification to allow that.

The script doesn't run on a plain 1,4 rev.3838 setup with lua calls disabled.
The script crashes the camera when 1,4 rev.3831 updated to 3838 with DISKBOOT.bin and PS.FI2 ... as i wrote before

Never had a problem with the unstable 1,3 and with the 1,4 until it was rev. 3831.

Just tested a plain 1,3 rev.3837 setup and the above attached script doesn't run with lua calls disabled. The "original" CHDKPlus runs fine.
