Finding the g9's intervolameter algorhythm to compress timelapse videos

I'm not exactly sure how the g9 does it's intervolameter compression into movies as i am assuming that the g9 compresses it IN CAMERA versus on computer which is what those without g9's have to do.  (i'm on an powershot s5)  so my question is this, is there anyway to find that algorhythm and to enable the compression of a set of pictures to be created IN CAMERA?  If i'm totally wrong in a sense that the g9 just allows you to take 1 or .5 second delay shots, and one has to squish the pictures in 3rd party software via jpegvideo, then nevermind.  but if it's in camera, i think it would be a tremendous time saver (takes me 40 minutes on my computer to squish 1800 shots into a 50 second video at 30fps.)  that and it would hog less resources on my computer while i'm squishing them in.

so lemme know if i'm dreaming that the g9 does it in camera or was it more of wishful thinking  :haha

in-camera timelapse function probably uses low frame rate (set by the user) for video recording... framerate control function/variables have'nt been found yet (as i know)
btw: using chdk timelapse script, you can create HD timelapse movies
tip: when shooting images for timelapse movies use the smallest resolution that fits your needs(like 1600*1200 or VGA), it'll speed up a lot video encoding

It may very well use real photography instead of the lower quality video recording (which is just the live view image with all its quality issues). When speed is no issue (as in timelapse), it doesn't matter much where the image data comes to the video compressor (mjpeg in most of these cameras, so saving stills instead of a single video file is really not much different...the most obvious difference is the lack of an avi header, not video quality).

But no, we don't know how to access the encoder even if there was huge advantages in it (some new ixus model has mpeg4 in it I think...).

awww..........................  i really really dislike having to wait 40 minutes rather than to just have the camera compress it itself.

i'll switch the camera to 1600x1200 next time.  i've seen some hd movies and they did look pretty good.

i had to compress the pictures using intel something compressor with 0 compression as compressing the files with raw or .mpeg gave me weird images.  i think my graphics card wasn't able to handle it.

i wish someone could sneak out the canon firmware so that chdk can mod it.
