hm. ewavr said to not touch stubs_auto.s. perhaps he can shed some light on this issue here.

stubs_auto.S is generated from boot.c in platform/makefile_sub.inc (which is included by each platform/sub/*/Makefile). But I'm not sure if that gets done always while building or just in some special cases, I'm not that good with makefiles. In any case editing it seems like the wrong way to do things.

Hello ,

Few days ago I run in such problem : just before holidays I bought 8 gb SDHC card by TOSHIBA , then I installed on it CHDK software build 0.5.1-499 / fw 101b for my Canon S5 IS. I tested only if it works , haven't got time to test how works transfers . So card is formated with one partition FAT16 32 MB for CHDK and rest was left untouched . In camera it was no problem full capacity of card was visible and usable . But I made many RAW pictures which are unaccessible now . Vista doesn't work with CRW files , JPG were trasfered whithout problems via camera transfer wizard . Any software and Vista itself don't show CRW files from this card . I tried also external card reader - no succes .

After reading this and some other threads about larger than 4GB SDHC cards I started to worry ,but ......
today --- Tada ...tada ... bingo !!!! I solved my problem !!!

I used Paragon Partition Manager 9 to change primary slots (whatever it is ?) for partition on my SDHC card . By the why PPM 9 mounts by default SD card as a fixed harddrive which is essential for such operation . Primary slot change is data safe operation ,and after that my Vista were able to see whole photo storage space and my valuable 1,5 Gb (about 150 pictures) CRW files are being transfered via card reader to my hdd , now .

The drawback is that probably I'll must reverse whole opertion to use again card in my S5 with CHDK autoload feature but I'll check this later .

For now after 5 min of copying I can confirm that this metod is OK . Copied files are readable ,not damaged ---- a lot work for me to work with them with LightBox Plus photoeditor which is most superior tool for CRW files I've ever found :D

Well, this is better solution working under WinXP (do not know if it is also OK under Win Vista):

 - you can any time change that code (see below) from 01 to 00 and back. Principle is, that Win XP ignore 00 code but CANON will see it. So: in CANON it download CHDK and change to second partition, in Windows (using card reader) it ignores first partition and goes to second=big one, where all data is

7. Run Beeblebrox NT. Choose your drive from the drop-down (CAREFULL!! otherwise bye bye your hard disk data). Since Beeblebrox NT starts numbering from 0 the number of your drive should be the one you found with aefdisk32 minus 1, which is 4 in my case. Change the type of the first partition on this drive to 00 (from 01, probabbly) and save the changes. Then close Beeblebrox NT.

8. Take the card off your card reader, put it back.

9. Windows now will see your second partition and show the first as unallocated space.)

I'm trying to format an 8GB SDHC card to test on my a590is ..
I'm limited in terms of SDHC readers - the only device I have other than the camera for reading/writing to SD[HC] cards is a notebook from work.
Windows XP will use my SDHC card normally if it's formatted normally.

I've tried SDM's installer [for SDM 1.75] and upon clicking "partition" [noting that it finds the card just fine] it comes up with a dialogue saying, "remove and re-insert the sd card".  It doesn't do anything else at all.

I've tried aefdisk and it can't even see that there's a device/card at all.  It sees only the internal hard disk.

Trend Micro corporate antivirus is disabled.  This is the only piece of software running that would seem obviously able to interfere.

Any suggestions on how to repartition/format the card?  Last time I tried that got anything resembling a satifactory result [which didn't work in the camera] was with linux [kubuntu 8.04] .. since then I've installed kubuntu 8.10 instead, and oddly enough partitioning tools no longer even see the SD slot as a device, card or no card.

I used wind's instructions from here http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,255.msg19276.html#msg19276 (page 6, middle), and everything seems to be working OK in CHDK. However, the regular Canon software does not use the second partition, and thus shows that there's only enough space for 3 pictures ;)

Short of partitioning my 8GB card into a 4GB FAT16 partition, is there any other way to make sure that the same card can be used for both CHDK and the original Canon software?

Wow - there are very elaborate ideas on how to workaround the problem of how to have a partitioned SDHC card and be able to use it in your Canon AND be able to browse the other partition using Windows.

Good on all of you, but I think I have found an easier solution.

Because the problem of browsing a partitioned flash device is a natively Windows problem, I think I have just found the simplest ONE TIME workaround here:

http://www.lancelhoff.com/multi-partition-a-usb-flash-drive-in-windows/

Once you do this, you can partition to your hearts content (i.e., have a CHDK bootable partition and the remainder of your cards full capacity - and, more importantly, its contents - visable under Windows XP and Vista).

This involves bit flipping so Windows recognizes the flash card as a portable storage device, and thus should work on any sized card.

ED:

I just found another (less simple) method that does not involve bit flipping your SDHC card (whatever the hell that is), however, unlike the solution above, you will need to apply it to EVERY PC you desire to work from.

@ac17

Just checked the new method: does not work for me on 8 GB Kingston through card reader.

Windows does not recognise my card as fixed disk - maybe this only works on Lexar or

even only on Lexar USB sticks ?

The other method has already been published in this thread a long time ago (reply #4) - it's more trouble

than it's worth (IMHO). Want easier method ? Try SDMINSTE (from Stereo Data Maker, see attach)

Cheers - Ill try the Lexar bit flip on my transcend 8 SDHC when I get home from work :P

If it doesn`t work, Ill use the SDM method.

I found more detailed instructions on the bit flip application here:

keep in mind that the sdminste.exe does not come with sources, so we do not really know what it does or what it is capable of.

Just for the record, I have not seen the sources and I do not know what it does or what it is capable of  :)
