Hello,

I'm assuming the answer is no, since the camera seems to only be able to shoot photos every 0.6-0.7 second in continuous mode, still.. is there any way with scripts in CHDK or otherwise to get a powershot S5 IS to take 3 shots (or more) per second? In manual mode of course, with focus and all other settings preset.

Almost certainly not. You could try dropping the resolution to 640x480, but at that point you might as well use video mode instead.

You can speed up the continuous drive a bit when you enable the "Digital zoom" & Decrease the image resolution. My cam shows a blue "T" when the digital zoom is active (For teleconverter i guess..), which turns white when the resolution is decresed enough. I dont really know why or how it works, but then that T is white, the continuous drive gets faster..

This is due to making the sensor area used (selected by engaging the right digital zoom) to the same size as the final image. If you "digitally zoom in" you are only using part of the sensor. If you match your final image size to the same pixel proportions as the digital-zoom is using, then the camera doesn't have to spend any time at all on downsizing or up-sizing the image data. Thus, the increase in continuous shooting rates.

You will have to do the math to find out what digital zoom is needed for a particular final image size. Or take a sequence of images at various digital-zoom factors and then read the EXIF data in the MakerNotes section of "ZoomSourceWidth" to see what resolution (width) you should choose as your final image size.

If there was a way to enable digital zoom at any optical zoom setting, meaning, you don't have to use up all optical zoom before engaging digital zoom, then you could take advantage of this speed-up at all optical zoom settings.

I don't know about the S5, but on many models such as the a570is there's a digital teleconverter feature which does exactly this (cropping regardless of optical zoom). The resulting burst mode speedup (for low ISO and fast Tv and the exactly correct jpeg size only of course, with the correct size/zoom combination indicated by the color of the tele feature symbol on LCD when you get it right) is the reason I've sacrificed the the print button shortcut to this feature...
