Hi,

Sorry mate no news. The estimated delivery date is 05/Feb/2008.

I wish there was another way of capturing the LED data.
Is using my notebook's IR a crazy idea? It is probably blind to anything but IR, right?

But that's totally normal: if you can't wait anymore for something you are creating crazy ideas to reach your goal earlier.

5th February? That means that you have two weeks to think about going downtown to buy one photo diode.

Yeah, I guess so. But it did cross my mind

You go to downtown Sao Paulo on Saint Efigenia St. and try to buy one photo diode.
Or any small number of components, if the guy takes his time to listen to you he will probably say they don't carry it.
If they don't know you and you're not buying bulk it is very hard and tiring to find what you need.

So yes I rather wait Farnell to import it and deliver to my door.

But anyway, how come you can make the LED blink and can't make the speaker beep? (Oh no! More nonsense! I need my CHDK fix

)

What about playing around with jeff's A720 CHDK port? Just to make yourself familiar with the debugged code.

Because I guess that there are not too much differences between A720 and A650 firmware. Both are A-Series Model, both are using DryOS and LED addresses are the same for both. Maybe you will be able to find speaker beep code? That would be pretty funny.

BTW: What I'm wondering about is that no one else is trying to dump the A650 firmware!? Seems that you are the only one who is working on this task?

Actually, I have tried several times to dump A650 firmware using your blinker program on serial port but no success. Load.exe started accepting data everytime and stopped at about 1.5Mbyte. When I looked at the dump, it seems I got garbage data and could not find any wording like "DRYOS".

What you think is going on? How long did it take to dump?
Did you just change the LED adresses on tommy's program?

Maybe you have an old ball mouse and you are able to extract the phototransistor from it?

This could let you calm down a little bit.

rchoi999, I don't know if the blinker program will work with the serial port. I don't know anything about the program "Load.exe" for the serial port.

But the blinker program should work with the microphone input. How to connect the phototransistor to mic-in is described here in detail:

I am using the blinker from http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A650IS and blink_g7.rar from http://grandag.nm.ru/hdk/blinker/ to receive data. It took about 5-6 sec to dump 1K.
