a fellow forum member was generous enough to share his custom chdk build with me which allows switching between playback and capture mode.....which allows the deleting of files!

has any such functionality been rolled into the main builds? or at least the autobuilds for the a570 and/or the a590?

Errh, what?

Switching between playback & record mode has nothing to do with chdk, that was always posisble. At least on my SX100 and my girlfriends Ixus 750.

Please describe your problem in more detail...

No, not yet I'm afraid.

Oh, but if you only need to delete files, recent autobuilds have a set of io functions in Lua (but not ubasic), including file deletion and directory listing.
