SD Card Locked

I can't copy the files DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FER to my SD card.  It keeps showing an error message "device is locked"?  I checked and the SD Card is in the unlocked position.  Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum !

You are using a card reader i hope ? FAQ - CHDK Wiki
if not: you can't do this via USB cable
if that doesn't help please supply more details (camera, CHDK version, etc.)

Yes, I am using a card reader and I tried two different manufacturers of sd cards with the same results.

And what about other files ? can you copy any file to the card ?
If not, i would suspect the card reader driver.
you will have to give more details, though ...

like, what operating system ?

I am using Windows XP.  I can't copy anything to the card. The message is: can not copy because card is write protected.

OK, is the card formatted ? have you already taken any pictures on the card ?

Yes, the card is formated,  I have taken pictures with it.  I have used two other formated cards with the same results.

I guess that means we have to focus on the card reader ...
is it one of those universal card readers, that has slots for
many types of cards ? those often give you several drive
letters, so it could be that you are addressing the wrong drive.

if that is not the problem, check the card reader driver in
Device Manager.

BTW did you ever have this card reader working ?

Thank you for the help.  The SD card lock was broken.  I replaced it with a new card today and it worked.
