Corrupted cchdk.cfg file and DNG feature

I have an A650IS using Allbest version 0.8.1.586

Somehow the cchdk.cfg file became corrupted so that the DOF calculation information is not updated and the DOF information is not displayed if the 'Show DOF calculator' is set to [separat].  I'm not sure what other functions were not working properly.  It may be a good idea to backup the cchdk.cfg file after making any changes.  It would also be a good idea to add a feature to create a backup of the cchdk.cfg file on the memory card from the camera.

Also, in investigating the above problem, I discovered that the cfg file is not overwritten each time cardtricks updates the memory card with an updated allbest build.  The cfg file is only created if there is a missing cfg file, for example in a new chdk installation.  The cfg file date is 01/01/2000 and the file date does not seem to change even if I change the chdk settings!

I also upgraded to Allbest version 0.8.9-624 in investigating the above problem.

There is a DNG format option in the RAW option in the main menu.  When I attempt to check this option, I get a error dialog box:

"Cannot load CHDK/badpixel.bin"

Can someone provide more information on this DNG format option and why I am getting the error message.  Does the DNG format provide EXIF information?

I just wanted to add that the cfg file can be backed up by copying the file to a separate folder on the memory card using file browser.  A dedicated feature to backup this file would still be nice to have.

You might find it useful to examine the 'broken' cfg file with my PC-based cfg editor - see An Editor for CHDK.CFG Files

Below is the text of my corrupt cfg file using the cfgeditor software by zeno if anyone is interested in analyzing it.  As I indicated in my original post, CHDK does not function properly when the cfg file is used on my A650IS camera.

I was able to produce the badpixel.bin file and generate DNG images on my A650IS.  However, the documentation on bad pixels on the chdk wikia site seems to be outdated as it refers to the use of show_bad, which I think is an earlier version of show_bad_b.

However, if I  generate a raw image file using a slower shutter speed, the number of bad pixels reported by show_bad_b increases.  What setting for shutter speed should be used to generate the raw file to be used by show_bad_b?

Why doesn't dng4ps2 require a bad pixel file to generate a dng image file?

AFAIK the 'old' method is applied to RAWs, the 'Remove Bad pixels' menu option refers to this, not to DNG (!)
Read this thread for more insight into DNGs: Save RAW files in DNG format instead of RAW (that's where i picked up most of this)
It seems that the DNG specification requires a bad pixel correction, don't know how DNG4PS2 solved this ...

edit: thread above might also be a better place to ask general Q about DNG, many experts around ...

Maybe 1/4 - 1 sec.

Because DNG4PS2 reads badpixels directly from RAW file. CHDK also can do this, but DNG saving time would increase by 5-15 seconds  ;).

That "Unknown entry = 0" at the end of Doug's CFG file was because my editor was not up-to-date and quite a few CFG items have been added recently.

I've just updated the jar file at An Editor for CHDK.CFG Files to rev 625, so all should be OK now.
