Using a different version of CameraWindow produced by Canon

First off, I have spent all afternoon trying to figure out how to use CameraWindowCompDVC instead CameraWindowDC on a PowerShot A590IS. That's the mission here.

The model A510 uses just CameraWindow, which always asks one important thing to me and my co-workers; the location to save the unloaded photos, rather than having to constantly change the directory in which files are automatically saved too, like DC makes you do. (Unless I'm missing something, in which case I appologize for posting this and wasting your time.)

I did manage to figure out that the camera model uses a particular CameraWindow. So I'm not even sure if it's possible to make the A590IS use just plan ole CameraWindow with out a firmware mod. Which I'm not all that excited about doing.

Like I said I've been trying to research this topic and either I'm the worst at searching the internet, or it's only been addressed in a small corner of it. And you great folks in this community seem to be the most knowledgable in this area or would have the most knowledge outside of contacting Canon.

If it's not possible without a firmware mod then thats fine, I'll look into other camera window software, but I wanted to follow this up because most of the co-workers already know (and like) that version better then CameraWindowDC.

Thanks,

RnkG

I am afraid you won't be getting much help here...

Not because people here aren't usually helpful, but in this particular forum we discuss an alternative firmware for the camera itself (i.e. programs that runs on the camera, NOT on the PC)

For many operations this firmware requires that you extract the card from the camera and you connect it directly to a card reader, completely bypassing the CameraWindow software.. for exmaple, I am currently using three Canon cameras but I haven't installed Canon software on any PC...

I am afraid the same will be true for many other peole here...

If you don't get replies here, try posting on some other forum, were people will probably use the CameraWindow software more..

SDM (StereoData Maker) and WIA-Loader allow you to upload from a card reader or via USB and automatically rename, moved to named folder, delete images on camera, automatically open with an external viewer, etc.

It may do what you want.

Read this page carefully http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/upload.htm

Thanks for the response! I got to thinking about it a bit last night in bed and it is the desktop software that dictates what CameraWindow is selected. So I appolgize for posting here.

Thanks for the time,
