Repair help (Service mode?)

Hi

I have lens/zoom problem with my IXUS 850IS.
When turned on the lens motor start and send out the lens to it maximum position.
Then it display a error 'zoom error'.
From this point it stand still for 5-10 seconds before it turn it self off.
During the turn off it rewind the lens about 10%.

I have taken apart everything related to the lens/zoom into tiny parts and re-assembly it back.
No change, still same error.

What  service tools can I use to find what the cause is?
Are there service menu or software that I can use?

When turned on the lens motor start and send out the lens to it maximum position.
Maybe zoom encoder (optical) or its wires is damaged, processor can not read current zoom position.

Hi,

What parts are involved in the zoom encoder. Where are they located.

One part that I did not take apart fully was the shutter. I only checked that
the blades and IR filter blad (I think) was okay. There is a lens inside and I think it
is moveable by some electromagnets achieving the optical stabiliser function.

Are there any functional descriptions available, links ect. that I can read to get a
better understanding of how the IXUS works.

It is probaly some part that is broke. It's hard to pinpoint out what it can be without some
general knowledge about the way things work.

I visible examine all cables, PCB's, mechanical stuff without seeing any strange.

I'm rather good on electronics and programming so
what ever lead I can get is most appreciated.

Thanks

Maybe this is wrong forum for this question...
I never disassembled any camera...
In other topic nircshi dissasembled  ixus800 lens (with images).
I'm interested about Canon cameras schematics, but found it (not too detailed) only for old cameras (ixus400, ixus60) in some russian forums.

edit: attached part of ixus65(ixy digital 80) schematics.

Hi,

Thanks for the schematics, it was a great help.

I located all 4 sensors
The 2 Zoom Encoder sensors are located on the Zoom Motor.
The zoom reset sensor is located on the side of the object.
The focus home sensor 'AF Reset' is located closed to the CCD.

I de-assembly it again and this time even the focus stuff located above the CCD.
I left it slightly above the reset position and then it behaved differently but not OK.
I then moved the focus to it's home position and then I was back on same behaviour as from the beginning.
I think my problem is the focus.

I know by now why Cannon leave the lens in the outer position at power off. Due to the zoom control
can not operate the focus lens correct it may be in a outer position and if rewinding the zoom/lens
it would smash into the focus lens.

I found a picture from this guy
Mis on karul kõhus?

The picture is not from IXUS 850 IS but it is a very similar construction.

I guess I need to talk with Cannon Service
