I have a new IXUS 870 and I would love to help port CHDK to this awesome new camera.

I am new to CHDK and ARM asm (I am experienced in C) so I am a bit out of my depth to get this port started myself, let alone the fact that this camera uses the new DIGIC IV processor. I am also having problems getting the CHDK dev environment working as I am using Vista x64.

So far I have uploaded the 1.01a firmware from my camera and I have loaded the firmware into IDA and had a look around.

Is anyone more experienced able to get the port started for this camera?

I am thinking about getting an SD880 - would you recomend it as a good P&S?

Whats holding me back is that its not supported by CHDK.

Is it possible it will never be supported, or is it just a matter of time?

The SD880 is a great camera, it's sports a beautiful screen and 28mm wide angle lens which helps in those big group shots.
The face detection with the upgraded Digic IV image processor is also very responsive and is accurate at recognising more than one face.
However the noise control is still not that great, but acceptable.
One thing that I would really like with this camera is definitely aperture control, bracketing and motion detection...all of which can be done with CHDK =)
Does anyone know the status of the port? I'm not experienced enough to start my own port but I would love to help out where it's needed.

I'm also interested at a port.
I've seen that they are working on a port for the sd990 / ixus 980 .

Perhaps it is easy to use this port, when its finished to get a working port for the sd880
