G7 Manual Focus malfunction

Hi all,

my new G7 has from my point of view a malfunction regarding manual focus.
Every time, the display shuts off due to power safe or manually setting, the MF is resetted to Autofocus.
For me it is a problem because I want to have this MF setting stored on the customers setting button C1/C2 permantently.

Do you know a workaround or can this problem be solved using CHDKs patches?

Thom, I have the same problem with my A710IS.
Did you ever find a solution to this problem?
Maybe they figure I can't focus manually if I can't see the display?
Anyway, it's a real pain taking astrophotos. Everything I am shooting is at infinity!

I have the same issue. I would like to do afocal imaging with an A640. Therefore I need the focus set to infinity. The A640 (and the G7) can both be remotely controlled from a computer using the Canon SDK. However, the SDK for the compact digital cameras does not include a focus set. So, I was wondering if I could set the focus with CHDK and then use the remote control. Any suggestions/comments would be most welcome.
