I need only the battery indicator

Hello all,

I just tried CHDK on my A590 (1.01b) and it's quite intriguing - too intriguing, in fact, since I don't need 99% of the default features, actually I am merely interested in the battery indicator. Is there a way too to strip out everything else? Or a build including only the indicator?

Thanks in advance,
Schnupfen

How 'bout just not using everything else?

No, not really, AFAIK - there is compile options in the source that could be disabled, but even so,
that only saves a small part - IIRC it was less than 20%

Looking on the positive side, as you probably know, unless you deliberately open up the menu,
CHDK will not *bother* you - so I would say: just set up your battery indicator the way you
like it, disable all else, set to autoboot and you got what you need, no need to update either  :D ...

Seriously, don't be afraid, it's the most safe software PIMP made on any device, because it doesn't alter the original firmware in your camera, just it loads from the card at every startup...
It's 100% safe to use CHDK, nobody reported ever any damage caused by chdk.
In practice it doesn't void warraty, because the usage of chdk doesn't leave any trail(after using chdk for months, i got some mechanical problems with the A630,  i send it back for repair and they repaired it for free.)

Yep, just install, configure (disable all the OSD you don't like etc) and after that, never press the ALT key.

If you accidentally do press ALT, just press it again to leave ALT mode.

As for scripts, never select a script. That way if you accidentally do press ALT and then shoot (shoot in ALT mode starts the currently selected script), the "default script" script will be run. This script does nothing (except writes some info on the screen notifying you what you've done). Again, just press ALT to go back to your regular life. :D

Reconfigurable keys have been in the our wishlist for quite some time btw, and this request is something very similar.

I think there is a need for being able to disable ALT completely or to configure it to a more difficult key combination (like pressing certain 3 buttons simultaneously if the keyboard can detect that) for people who get confused by all the menus and shortcut keys that can be accidentally pressed, but who would benefit from the things you can just leave on like the battery indicator, DoF calc, histogram and zebra (well zebra only if someone would be able to port the good zebra to current trunk; I'm actually still mostly shooting with that old allbest build because of its proper zebra).

A custom allbest build, yes. The zebra in this thread, it never was in trunk: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,1849.msg16756.html#msg16756. One that draws under Canon OSD instead of overwriting it. I.e. zebra that never needs to be disabled. But offtopic indeed, let's continue in that thread. It would be really great if you'd be able to port it :)
