Feature request: Trimming/Save as new image on Canon Ixus 800 IS / SD700 IS during zoom in playback mode enabled.

This feature I want to see very gladly on the Canon Ixus 800 IS / Canon Powershot SD700 IS:
That trimming /=cropping is enabled on CHDK. And that you can save that as a new image.

As normal:
So you make a picture;
* Look this back in playback mode;
* Zoom in with the zoom button;
* Use the navigate buttons <--, --> etc. to move around the image

and then would it be great when on CHDK
for example the Func/Set. button is enabled or any other button that is free

and that you get a message when you enter this button: Save as new image? Yes / No.

And that you have the option in the CHDK menu:
Allow trimming/cropping and save as new image.

Could that be possible?

Thank you very much.

We don't currently have much control of playback, but that's a good idea.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

This would be ideal if done using lossless JPEG cropping, otherwise quality will suffer.
Lossless cropping has a limitation in that it doesn't allow one to crop at arbitrary sizes, but only at compression block bounds (8 pixels, I think), but this should mostly be a minor issue.

I don't know if/how playback zoom level can be read. I'd like to point out, however, that it might be worth ignoring the issue altogether, and instead letting you define a rectangle using the cursor keys while zoomed out.

This sounds less intuitive and more complicated than using zoom, but you need to keep in mind that playback zoom is very coarse, and would harly allow one to actually choose the wanted cropping area.

Thank you for your replies.

The Fuji Finepix F30 had indeed this feature already.

My purpose was to do this with JPEG only.

It would still be great when the Canon Ixus 800 IS / SD700 IS have this feature too.
And that the screens on CHDK will be available for this feature.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,
