Hi,
I'm using CHDK:
s5is fw:101b build:0.8.4-595 date:Fri, 28 Nov 2008

I've noticed during video recording that i see the current bitrate in KBytes/Sec and i can change it in realtime.
Although i change it (from 0.25x to 3x) it doesn't seem to do anything. Not in the bitrate onscreen, and not by checking the video file later. (comparing length vs size, and checking the bitrate on VirtualDub).

Am i doing something wrong? Or is it a bug ?

it is a bug, as in: on s5is you should not be able to influence the bitrate (not even in osd). i just opened a ticket (0000146: s5is fast video quality control - should be deffed out - CHDK Bugtracker )

I know that on previous CHDK the video option over-ride wasn't available for S5.
Will it ever be available? Is it a problem just with this model?
Or is there a problem with the operating system of the camera and other similar brands (dryOS if i remember correctly) which prevent this?

i dont know if it will ever be available, only an asm master is able to code this particular feature for the s5is.
but you can help in another issue by the way: do you think you can find out the propcases for the canon bracketing (focus & ev) for s5is? we only know them for digic II cams, and still need these for dryos/digicIII...

I would very happy to help, but i'm not good at programming...
If i could, i would have done the asm programming for video bitrate long time ago :)

Well, now I can make test version with video support for S5IS, but for which firmware version (1.01a or 1.01b) first?

(it seems that replacement of taskCreateHookAdd() for DRYOS is found).

it doesnt really matter for which firmware you build it, there will be always people having the right one. dataghost has the b version, he sometimes is willing to betatest my stuff in irc ;)
on the other hand in the s5is flickr forum i can find people to test really fast.

One issue is if I set it to quality and set the quality to 99, it crashes after recording a few seconds and the camera shuts off (pre-emptively, so the lens stalls).
