Simple genlock of two cameras over USB

Could rudimental communication over USB be established between two cameras for synched stereo time lapse shooting? This would probably mean to set one cam to master, sending a small current out of its USB port to the crosslinked slave camera. So far, I understand I need an external intervalometer/switch to do that, right?
Alternatively:
Could someone tell me if the camera internal clocks could be used to run two cameras parallel but unsynchronized after a common initial trigger over USB? Is the clock accurate enough? I would not want to use a wait command but rather absolute time in case there ever are camera specific delays.

I believe I answered this very question mere days or weeks ago. I don't remember where it is, please try the search.

It is not necessary.

Use this device in 'SDM Timelapse' mode CanoRemote Manual

Highly synchronised images will be captured on the falling-edge of the pulse.

genlock to shoot 3d-stereo-hd-video? maybe we should implement this subject to sdm-yahoo-list.
i am asking since nec, panasonic and jvc have developped sensationel autostereoscopic screens of 31,105 and 180 cm diagonal size. using two panasonic g2(hd-video-photo) cameras. i wouldnt be much surprised if panasonic would not have the same idea. g2 should come out in 2009.
for those not knowing: although micro 4/3 only, one can at least use older lenses(minolta md, canon fd, and the others c/y,nikon, olympus om leica m, r with adapters. screen will not darken when stopped down. smallest lens is 14mm(7-14mm zoom coming out soon. 20/1.7(40/1.7) high-speed-lens announced too. lets wait for canon. new cameras announced.
implementing chdk in sx1IS(28mm zoom, hd-video) would also be a good start. its has the same technology but not the same chipsize like in 5d mk2.
