Hey all you hard working dudes!

I'm new to this forum and desperatly seeking some answers to maybe stupid questions.

I use my canon cameras for remote shoting with software developed using canon SDK.
The problem is that this will not work in Vista OS, and canon will not update the SDK for Vista (maybe for some EOS model)
So my question is the following, is it possible to use this software with remote shoting? if i give all the info to the prog guy, will he be able to write new inteface to use all commands in remote?

Does this question make any sence?

Hope for some expert to point me in right direction, thanks

Some control is possible by switching the USB supply voltage on/off (which isn't something you can do from Windows without some custom hardware). Some more elaborate control has been demonstrated by ewavr but it's not in current CHDK nor being developed because it only works on some cameras.

Neither of these allows image transfer of any kind from the camera. In theory you could switch between the regular play mode USB functionality and the CHDK remote functionality (and this would also require rec<-->play mode switching be implemented in mainstream CHDK, it's still missing but not impossible), but I'm not aware of anyone testing this (and it's likely that some difficulties will rise with the PC from plugging/unplugging the usb device way too often between these two modes).

In short, try and see if gphoto2 does the trick. If it does, you can use it or its source code to reimplement what you need from the Canon SDK.

Have you had any luck with this? I am trying to do remote afocal imaging with an A640 (although I will change to an S or G series camera if necessary). Therefore, I need to set the focus to infinity before acquiring images. Since I want this to be "hands off". I need a way to set the focus before using SDK developed software to run the camera. If only Canon had bothered to include that in the SDK (like they did for the EOS cameras).

BTW, how hard was the SDK to use. I have not tried it yet, but it seems fairly straightforward.

Cheers,
Ken
