@Bikechick:
   I think you are wrong about the Ultra-intervalometer version,the good one is the first,the second is more specific and maybe obsolete.If I remember well,the first one works well so,but if you want to use the Endless-mode you have to add a slight modification.

Thanks everyone!  I installed carlapse and it works perfectly!  so happy!  I leave for Africa On Monday and this is going to be such a cool project. And I get to act as if I have a clue about technology (so long as no one asks me any questions, the deception will be perfect - giggle).

Have a great trip, stay safe, and be sure to post the results in Creative Uses of CHDK !

If you haven't already, I'd suggest testing the complete process you expect to use on the trip: Mount the camera on your bike, run the script all day, ride some, transfer the pictures etc. Don't want to get to Africa and find some minor detail keeps the whole thing from working.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
