SD750 Can't put upload files to SD card

I have an SD750 and I'm trying to upload the ver.req file onto the SD card by plugging in the usb cable from camera to my laptop. But when I try to copy the ver.req or vers.req file (which I made using create new text doc with the name and extension changed to ver.req and saved) I get an error message saying

"This file 'ver.req' is not supported on this device. Although this device supports unspecified files, it does not support .req files"

What am I supposed to do? The same thing happens when I try to put in the bootdisk and ps files as well.

You cant upload files via the USB cable to the camera. The protocol used for direct camera <-> pc communication is called "PTP" (picture transfer protocol) and is usually intended for camera to pc transfers only. You dont have access to the root directory of the SD card anyways over PTP.

You need a cardreader for CHDK.

PTP can be used to upload files if the camera supports this. Some cameras don't and some do. Apparently my a570is doesn't. But even if your camera does, you'll probably only be able to upload images to those certain image folders visible via PTP.

And then there's this thing:

Hmm, I tested this uploader with six different Canon models (a75, a710, a720, g7, ixus700, sx100), it worked always. Maybe firminfo.txt was incorrect or some software in computer interfered with it.

Some experiment:
- create in folder with uploader 'CHDK' folder
- put in it file 'aaa.txt' (for example)
- modify firminfo.txt:
Quote
[Firmware File Name]
ps.fir
diskboot.bin
chdk/aaa.txt
-start uploader
- all files will be transferred to card: ps.fir and diskboot.bin to root folder, aaa.txt to CHDK folder (but with 'aa' filename  :().
Some restrictions: this software can not create folders on card. And, of course, it cannot make bootable card (but who knows?).

Can someone post up the link for the uploader program? I tried downloading from z-share but it kept looping around making me wait 20 seconds and then requesting me to click "start download" again and then I had to wait 20 seconds again. The program never started downloading
