chdk(version 642 of dec 19-a590IS) is bootloaded. but i have no  access, cannot activate alt. print-button-light is flashing a bit during startup. set to replay of course.
i prepared my panasonic class 6--card(2gb) with cardtricks as administrator. maybe i have contact-problems. but how to clear the camera and cardreader-slots. next steps are:
1. changing harddrive to xp or a clean w2k.
2. saving the file to a cd.
3. cleaning the contacts with alkohol.
4. installing sdm instead of chdk. and newest chdk after sdm worked.
using manual installation instead of cardtricks.
5. buying new single-cardreader and a quality-multicard-reader. are there some around which have the slots dustprotected? meanwhile i am protecting the slots with tape. maybe a bad idea causing humidity.

it is strange but it worked(not all functions) on  a 512-card but only 2 days.....
i am not puzzled by this since i a had harddrive-problems causing from dirty contacts and humidity. i had stored non-used drives in plastic-zip-bags without silicagel. i found it out just a week ago. i love a590IS. much better than CP 50 except lacking 28mm. thank you for any hints.

no alt when pushing print-button in replay-mode.

will avoid possibly bad cardreader(sd-usb-card 1gb)-using other download of cardtricks143.
but since it worked cardreader cannot be the cause.
it did shots and videos on 512mb-card. configured on other cards with the same problem.
will configure on panasonic 2gb(class 6) and sandisk 4gb sdhc class2.
if still not working i will configure on winxp-not w2k-system.
will try out new card on a new camera.

To avoid humidity, I always dry all my cards with a flame thrower.

If it doesn't work, I put them in the oven at 190 degrees celsius for 20 minutes. Don't forget to let them cool for 5 minutes before re-inserting into the camera!  :blink:

if something is terribly not working anymore and you did all the "right" steps then everything is possible.
ok i found it out after a long night:
its not print and menue anymore on a590IS to see ALT. its vice-versa
then menue again. one will see the original canon-factory-settings in the background.

in a590IS  nothing else

btw: my working place has standard/normal humidity(58%). i had a problem because my hddr were stored in zip-bags without silicagel(humidity-eater)

i will now get a good batteryloader from my friend-a batteryexpert. accu-doc.ch  we will discuss a possible batterypack, similar the one he made for flash-use.  in my case for SDM(stereodatamaker-use)-two cameras.

I'd rather say that its most probably that - even though you think you did everything right - you did something wrong, rather than humidity caused some gremlins to grow in your sd card. Although - you know, never let your mogwai get wet..

So let me get this straight - menue (canon menu will open), print (enter alt mode), menu (open chdk menu) ..  ?

Seems about right, only that i dont quite believe that its necessary to open the canon menu first.

Just checked on A590 101b: <Alt> and <Menu> work as advertised ...
