Complete thread:
New here need some help

My latest reply:
OK got the badpixel.lua staright and it worked properly however iPhoto and Aperture still will not recognize the DNG files. When I plug in my SD card iPhoto launches and there are 2 images for each picture I took one JPG and one DNG. The JPGs show up fine but the DNGs do not, same in Aperture I have the settings Save RAW, DNG format and DNG file extension on. The RAW prefixes are CRW_ and RAW file extensions are .CRW the files show up in iPhoto and Aperture as (example) CRW_3045.DNG while the JPGs show up as IMG_3045.JPG. Is there something I am missing???? Perhaps I need to change the extension or prefix???

I tried opening the RAW images using Photoshop CS, Preview, iPhoto and Aperture and none of them work or recognize the format. I tried turning off the DNG file extension in the alt menu, I changed the prefix to IMG. I do not know what to do the image is on the SD card but nothing can open it???

Help!!!p

Care to upload one of those DNG files, so we can have a look?

The DNG's produced by CHDK are perfectly normal (well, 10 bit instead of 16..) DNG files which should be readable by all RAW capable applications. Works without any problems here - RawTherapee, dcraw, ufraw, RawStudio - no problem.

Perfectly fine picture with exifdata and everything. Theres nothing wrong with your DNG's, its the software you're using to process them which got a problem with them.

Maybe its because they are 10 bits instead of the expected 16. I dont know any other raw processing software for Mac, so i cant really help you any further, sorry.

Adobe Photoshop CS with Camera RAW pluging 2.4 can open CHDK DNG (tested on Windows version).
(Camera RAW 2.4 for Mac).
Of course, this is very old version of Camera RAW, but newest versions requires more modern Photoshop.

I dont know much about Mac - but isnt there some kind of 'emulator' which allows you to run programs from other operating systems, like wine for linux? (Maybe wine runs on Mac?)
When that doesnt work, you still can use a virtual machine and run windows or linux in it. That uses the most ressources and would be slower than running a native application, but i see no other option (as i'm not a mac expert, not even user.. ;))

Regards

The latest version of GIMP compiled for Mac includes UFRaw, and does a fine job of opening and adjusting .CRW images. You can get GIMP for Mac (free) at this URL:

http://gimp.lisanet.de/

She has versions for 10.4 and for 10.5, for both PPC and for Intel macs.
Hope that helps!
