SD700/Ixus 800 - firmware/ALT button?

Hi everyone

Trying to work out how to use this on a SD700.
Not very good at this sort of thing - but really want RAW and some sort of s/speed + ap control on this camera.

Questions:

1. Do I need to update the SD700 firmware (to 1.0.1.1?) before I even start the hack? (Mine is on 1.0.0.0) Where can I find this firmware update? (haven't found it on any Canon websites - or anywhere else yet!)

2. Which button is used as the ALT button on the SD700?

Thanks for any help
Dave

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Can't believe I missed that bit about how to find out the firmware version!!

OK.
I have version 1.00b on the camera.
From what I've read it seems that I need to have 1.01b. Is that correct?

Is there anywhere that I can download this?
Or am I stuck with the "wrong" version?

(sorry if these are dumb questions - I'm new to all this stuff!)

Thanks for that info - it is all becoming much clearer now!

I may look into buy a second hand sd800 (with the correct firmware-not sure how I'll find out before I buy!) or even a sd500 (always liked those - no IS though)

Has anyone here successfully used the CHDK on a sd500/Ixus 700?
Which sd500 firmware did you have on the camera?

OK

Just for general info (might help someone else) - I have been informed on another forum that the ALT button on sd700 is the direct print button.
I have not tried this as I have the incorrect firmware on my sd700 and can't find an update anywhere.

If anyone here has a sd700 fw 1.01b and has successfully used the CHDK on it - can you tell me what the serial number on your camera is. I will try to find a sd700 with the correct firmware loaded. I have tried asking Canon (USA) about firmware and serial numbers - but they are not telling me anything!

Hi Barney Fife and everyone else

Yes. I have bothered going to the main site. I feel like I have read it a million times!! :)

I have just re-read it again. I can't find the answers to these questions:

1. Is there a way of using CHDK on a sd700/ixus 800 with fw 1.00b? - I pretty sure the answer is no, but would like to be absolutely sure before I give up on that one.

2. What serial number (approx) did Canon start to load the new 1.01b fw onto sd700/ixus 800 cameras? Or who has a sd700/ixus 800 with fw 1.01b working with CHDK and what is the serial number?

Like I said earlier - I am new to this sort of thing and you obviously have more experience with CHDK than me. So if you can help me, fantastic. If you can't, never mind I will find out another way.

I am sorry if I asked some dumb questions at the beginning and sorry if I ask any more dumb questions in the future.

If you have the answers to these questions - It would be very helpful to me if you could let me know what they are.
I hope one day that I can help you out with something.

If anyone else has the answers - I would love to hear from them too.

Hi dave,

I'm using an IXUS 800 IS fw 1.01b, serial nr. 2837308013. This camera model has 3 different tradenames around the world, who will tell you whether there is a common serial numbering system or 3 seperate? Version 1.01c or 1.02 may exist also.

Why not start a new sub-port yourself? The really difficult work is done, the fw 1.01b port is nearly perfect. You only have to dump your firmware and adopt the machine address differences, which is mostly automatic. See: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Porting_the_CHDK

mkmenuts, who moderated the initial port, may give you some assistance. see: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SD700_CHDK_Porting

Hi nirchi

Thanks for that - very useful.

I will look into it and let the forum know what happens.
Won't be for a while though as I have a ridiculously busy couple of weeks work coming up!
