Is there any method to edit exif in the camera?

In my Canon image files, the exif information seems to have a spot for my name but it is blank.  I searched the forum and it appears that no one has discovered how to edit exif in the camera... is this correct?  I would like to put my name in so all my files show it.

On a related note, I did see that the Canon software that came with my SD1100 IS allows me to upload splash screens.  So today I created one with my name and telephone number.  If I lose the camera and an honest person finds it, they will have a chance to notify me.  One small problem is that the splash screen seems to only show for about 1/2 second.  But it is enough to read if you try it once or twice.

The only way I know to write your name in the makernotes in-camera is using Canon ZoomBrower. I don't remember how, but just connect your camera and somewhere in the software you write the name. You can change/delete the day you sell your camera.

The idea of a splash screen with a telephone number has been discussed. It is already in the bugtracker: http://chdk.kernreaktor.org/mantis/view.php?id=12
AFAIK, nobody is working on it so you can be the one!
It looks like a piece of cake: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,1065.0.html

soon we will have the keyboard in chdk, this will make it a lot easier implementing things like you asked for.

Thanks for the replies!

For now,  I'll stay with my splash screen.  It's more convenient than a label on the outside of the camera.

Clarification:

Are you looking to have the files in the camera have your name in the EXIF data?

or

Do you just want your name in the EXIF data after they have been downloaded?

The former; I should have been more clear.

Yes, I'd like to have the camera insert my name in the EXIF data on each shot.  But I see that implementing this is probably very difficult.  Especially for me as I skipped school on the day they taught C.

On the contrary, it is very easy ... if we had a text editor in camera.

So... one more note.

After buying my SD1100 in early December 2008, I connected the usb cable one time on each of 3 different computers.  Not being super impressed with Canons software, I proceeded to install CHDK.  Late in December, I tried to connect with the usb cable again and on all three computers, windows XP said the drivers were corrupt and would not work. Hmmm.

Yesterday, I went after this problem and all it took was remove/reinstall of the drivers and the interface began working.  I don't know if CHDK did anything; it all works now.

So a moment ago, I tried Canon Utilities CameraWindow DC and sure enough, there is an icon in the upper right called SET.  Clicking on that allows me to type in a name that gets sent to the camera and ends up in each and every photos EXIF data.

And I notice that transferring photos by usb is about 5 or 6 times faster than pulling the SD card, putting it into the destination computer and copying across.
So all is good!

i remember that ewavr had a build he could even set the camera name and the shootcount with... Though the last feature should of course not get into trunk so people cannot abuse it...

You could use lua to modify the exif in the file if you really wanted to.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
