I am gonna have a couple more detailed questions soon, but i wanted to get this one out of the way..

i have a S3 coming to me in a couple days, and i am using it for one purpose, time lapse of a full 3 month long indoor skateboard park build.

i will have some questions about the right time lapse script to use, when i get the camera in hand and stuff, but for now i just got one topic of interest to touch on...

i read in a post reply from the how to video thread a kid made on the CHDK that the Canon S3 IS does not need cardtricks to manage the card for CHDK.

1: is this true?

2: and if this is true, does this mean all i have to do is take the SD card out of the package, insert it into my computer and drag and drop the contents of the un-zipped files of the S3 version of CHDK onto it and thats it?

thanks in advance.

Alex

p.s. this is my first post on the forum, glad i found it...  im from manchester nh usa.

True true ture, because the processor is a DIGIC II. Cameras with DIGIC III don't have a firmware update option so CHDK hackers had to find another way for CHDK to boot.

But don't forget you have to turn on the S3 in playback mode and then press MENU, then UP to select "Firm Update".

If you want CHDK to load automatically every time, go to CHDK main menu > Miselaneous stuff > Make card bootable. Also you have to set the SD card switch to LOCK.

Good luck with the time lapse. We (as the skaters) will be eager to see how the park is built!

To be pedantic, the difference is DryOS vs. VxWorks.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks reyalp, I knew something was wrong while I was typing. I'm getting old.
