Building the Board layout

First task: the board structure!

Please present your suggestions, and then we'll manage it.

Starting off:

CHDK Firmwares
  • Stable CHDK firmware releases (only stable ones)
  • General help using these firmwares

CHDK Developers
  • Developer thread CHDK firmware
  • Developer Assistance
  • General discussion of CHDK development

Lounge
  • General Chat
  • Forum related issues

As for moderators, it's only fair that the most avid chdk.wikia.com contributors should be able to moderate the board. Please pm me if you're interested.

Cheers

What a wonderful contribution to the CHDK community!

I think if you follow some of the general sections at the Wikia about what is needed that should cover most needs, until you see need to add new sections.

While the script writing and uBASIC sections at the Wikia don't get a lot of activity at times, I think this is mostly because there's no easy way to help others using the Wikia format for fluid discussions that are needed. And so much is spread around on all those "discussion" sections on every page. It might help if there was just ONE spot to discuss all uBASIC and scripting concerns. That would be my only suggestion for now. To add a Scripting and uBASIC section.

Whatever the case, I hope you have the patience, courange, and patience to take on a task such as this.

I also hope that CHDK gets into your own camera one day. There's always another alternative, buy one of the earlier models at used prices, then you'll have 2 cameras to play with. :-)

I'll second Woodsmans suggestion for a separate Scripting/uBasic section

In addition, IMO there should be separate sections for:
- firmware dumping.  Used to discuss strategies and techniques for getting a dump from a new camera or FW version
- Porting:  I'm not sure is this is the right word for it, but a section devoted to the process of taking a FW dump and creating a working CHDK build.
- DryOS:  newer cameras have a new OS, and there will need to be a lot of exchange of information as the developers learn what its all about.  It might be worth having a separate section for this (rather than leave it in the "porting" section).
- Motion detection.
- Stereo Data Maker.
The above two are special enough functions that it would be worth while having sections devoted specifically to the use/techniques/tips/ and applications of these unique functions.

Hello to all new members, welcome aboard.

I have to say that I will be managing this forum in a very *ahem* "non-executive director" way, as I don't have any knowledge on this matter, though I am interested in it. Having that said, it will be important to have some moderators that actually *know* CHDK, to interpret and channel all messages to the right place.

So for now, my task: Board structure! What about this structure:

CHDK Firmwares
  • Stable CHDK firmware releases (only stable ones)
  • General help using these firmwares

CHDK Developers
  • Firmware Dumping (one thread per machine / per user)
  • Developer thread CHDK firmware (from porting onwards - firmware dumping aside)
  • Script Writing and uBASIC
  • Developer Assistance and General Help
  • Feature Requests (Requests only - when development is started, topic is locked and a link is inserted to the development thread).
  • General Discussion of CHDK development - brainstorming lounge for experts - no feature requests

Lounge
  • General Chat
  • Forum related issues

You have suggested other sections, but let me do this comment first: all boards tend to get more complex to manage as more and more forums are available. For now it should be kept simple (I even recommend it simpler than above) or it will be complicated to handle.

Opinions?

Well, the basic structure is implemented... We'll change it later if necessary.

Have fun!  :P

wouldnt it be good to have sections for the special abillitys of the camera like HDR , RAW or unlimeted DPOF so that there could be suggestions about software and how to make those things ... even tutorials ... like a bridge to the world of photography ?

regards

chris

ps: can u transfer this post into your board layout thread ?

Hi,

There can be sub-forums in every main forum. I just need the community to propose and discuss *actual* structures.

cheers

First: Thanks, I suggested a forum for CHDK a at the WIKI and I'm very happy that you have done it!

Sec:
I think that we need A "Special Features" Main Thread like that, too:

Special CHDK Features Discussion
- RAW
- Motion Detection
- USB Remote
- Exposure (20"-65")
- Video Quality Settings
- ...

further I suggest A few "Language Boards":
Mothertounge Helpboard
- Deutsch
- Italiano
- Espangol
- etc

so that people who dont speak a proper english will have the chance to get their questions answered

next is a translations of script threat, and for that I think it might be better to have a own script main thread
Scripts
- uBasic language
- Script discussion
- Translations
- help
- etc

edit ps: might be a good Idea to have ONE discussion topic about the board structure and its themes, otherwise it will get complicating after a while ( at the moment there is "board layout" and "board themes"
now i got it whar themes are ^^

Let this CHDK-Board be great! ;D

edit:
??Camera Related Topics??
- A710
- A640
- A650
might be necessary as some scripts and questions are only related to certain cams, the hard task is to prevent mulit-postings in different threads... hmm.

We must have a "CHDK NEWS" Thread as first Thread in the Forum, where new features can be disussed as long as they are HOT (later on they can be moved in CHDK related special features or something like that)
