Navigational Links at Bottom of Threads?

I've since increased the speed limits on my "ScrollNavigator" utility for my mouse, but I still find I have to scroll my mouse-wheel quite a bit to get back to the top of some threads to be able to reach the CHDK > Board > Thread > Post links. (Quite frankly my index finger is getting more exersize than my legs lately.) Is there any way those navigational links could be included at the bottom of each theme? (I know it requires going in and hand-editing a line or few in each theme template, but ... it would be weally weally nice.  ::) Thanks if you can dood this.

(Don't make me unbutton my pocket and get out my bullet!  :lol  I don't think the sheriff will give me another one 'til next month if I have to use it up.)
[acseven/admin commented out: please refrain from more direct offensive language to any user. FW complaints to me] I felt it imperative to withdraw my TOTAL participation. Nobody has my permission, nor the right, to reinstate MY posts. Make-do with my quoted text in others' replies only. Bye

if its not to much trouble that would be nice indeed, but by then you might as well just use the box on the right bottom with its nice "jump to" options
or you adjust your mouse wheel to scroll more if you turn it (in the system settings of windows)

btw: I think we need a script main thread so that everyone can post scripts

Hi,

So, how this? Do you think it'll cope with what is necessary?

Cheers

I see new child boards were added to some forums. In general is good. But... Do we have so much messages to fill them?
It is still difficult (especial for a newbie) to choose right place for his topic to open.
Maybe would be better to reduce the number of forums?

I'm suggesting the following layout:

Title (brief description / the content suggested)

  • Using of CHDK Firmwares
    • CHDK Firmware Releases (announces; where to download; features description; firmware-related problems)
    • Help and Assistance on using CHDK firmwares (general questions: how to install, use; which settings are better; general problems; camera-related problems; etc.)
    • Script Writing (questions about current supported syntax; user-written scripts; script writing assistance; camera-related nuances)
    • RAW shooting and processing (working_with_RAW-related problems: how to copy; how to process; best post-processing settings and so on)
  • CHDK Development
    • General Discussion and Assistance (how to setup the environment and compilation issues; dumping the firmware; discovering a new features; bug reports) (some of this questions can be separated as a child board, but not to a dedicated sub-forum)
    • Feature Requests (no comment:))
  • Lounge (let it be untouced)
    • General Chat
    • Forum related issues

I think this makes the most sense of all so far. People aren't putting posts in the right place because it's far too confusing. And even with that many places sometimes there's still not a good place for some posts. (Even I put posts in the wrong place because of permissions problems with this account, or because none of the ones listed made any sense, originally.)

And could we please stop referring to CHDK as firmware too? It's not firmware. It's not anything like firmware. It's a firmware overlay if anything. A firmware add-on. A firmware interface, etc. Using the term firmware implies someone is going to destroy their camera by loading it or void some warranty or something. Every section here refers to CHDK as firmware. The only firmware references should be to those that are inside the camera. (as has been done all along)

I'd edit that layout like this (edits in teal color):

  • Using CHDK
    • CHDK Releases (announces; where to download; features descriptions; CHDK-related problems)
    • Help and Assistance on using CHDK versions (general questions: how to install, use; which settings are better; general problems; camera-related problems; etc.)
    • Script Writing (questions about current supported syntax; user-written scripts; script writing assistance; camera-related nuances)
    • RAW shooting and processing (working_with_RAW-related problems: how to copy; how to process; best post-processing settings and so on)
    • Creative Uses of CHDK (report a new way to use an existing feature, new discoveries of old features, etc.)
  • CHDK Development
    • General Discussion and Assistance (how to setup the environment and compilation issues; dumping the firmware; discovering a new features; bug reports) (some of this questions can be separated as a child board, but not to a dedicated sub-forum)
    • Feature Requests (no comment:)) PLEASE USE THE SEARCH FEATURE FIRST!
  • Lounge (let it be untouced)
    • General Chat
    • Forum related issues

Comments? I may have missed some good suggestions from the past when thinking about this. acseven suggested that some forums be "read only". I strongly disagree with that. You never know when or where a good idea might come from. Take for example the thread where I noticed the idea to have the ability to save individual config files, someone expounded on that by calling that "Save Presets" (a good idea). Had I been reading a forum where I couldn't interject that thought at the moment it came to me the idea would be gone. (maybe some authors wish it would  :D )

  • CHDK Releases (announces; where to download; features descriptions; CHDK-related problems)

Just a note: When I wrote 'firmware-related' I meant 'build or release -related', not CHDK in general.
As for other corrections I fully agree.

And the 'porting questions' should be under  "CHDK Development" -> "General Discussion and Assistance" (maybe as a child board).

I figured that. It's just that people are too freely confusing what firmware is from a CHDK-build. Two different things. And could cause fear and panic in the hearts of those already confused and in fear and in panic. Not to mention more confusion when discussing or knowing if they are downloading a "firmware" for porting or a "chdk build" for using.

Would be nice if the 3-4 main authors would all agree on a filenaming convention and build-# convention too. You should see my hard-drive, trying to save all the various builds and trying to sort them by "latest ones" :D

That "pre-release stuff" has got go to too. Everyone keep waiting for "CHDK: Final Release!" Ain't never gonna happen.  :lol  :lol
