Force digital zoom in still image

Hi!

I've been using CHDK for a while now, the opportunities of using relatively cheap cameras for all kinds of experiments are incredible; for example I would never have used a DSLR for this timelapse:

Now I have a project where I am taking stills and videos at macro distance, and I am only interested in the center of the image. When in video mode I use the digital zoom at 2x and it gives me exactly the cropping I need. Is it possible to suppress optical zoom (that won't work for cropping at macro distance) in favour of digital zoom when in still mode? I would be shooting at 2MP, at 2x digital zoom this should be as good as a center cropped 8MP, right?
I have a PS A720IS.

Thanks!

Johann

Many cameras (such as my a570is) have a "digital teleconverter" feature in the digital zoom settings in Canon menu which does exactly what you wish for. I don't know about the a720is, though.

I have this feature bound to the print key shortcut because this gibes maximum burst shoot rate (full cropping + resolution reduction to match it to avoid scaling).

Thanks, I thought I checked and it wasn't there. Now it is, great! :)
