usb remote problem with G9

Perhaps I am doing simething wrong.  Hardware wise the USB remote works fine on 4.5 volts. The problem is that the USB button press is detected as a half-press only.  I can not get it to fire the shutter, just find focus and exposure.

**edit**

Seems to work if I am in manual focus.  Is this normal?

thanks

I have no idea what remote release code is used in current builds, but try this: press the remote button, wait for it to focus, and then shortly release and depress the button again. Does it take a shot? If yes, then it's a feature that is there by design. If no, then it's a bug.

This is a surprisingly tough call.  I got it to fire a couple of time pushing twice, maybe twice out of five tries.  The timing has to be VERY precise.  Wait too long for the second push and it refocuses.  Wait too little and it still focusing.  I am not sure if this is a design issue with the camera or a timing issue with CHDK.

The timing has to be VERY precise.
By design, the second press has to come within 0.5 sec, it's not supposed to be precise timing

Hard to tell. I have absolutely no problem with it here. Then again, I don't use official builds

Edit: just tried an "official" build -- seems to work here.  As a suggestion, in the Alt menu, Scripting parameters -> Remote parameters, check "Enable remote" but nothing else and see if it helps. If it doesn't, then it must be an issue with your camera and its CHDK port.

Ah, knowing that 0.5 sec is the time window for the second press, I was able to get cable release exposures without a problem.  0.5 sec really does semm like a tight window.  Maybe I should work on my reflexes.

Thanks
