maybe not. i'm trying to build power adapter myself, based on standard atx power supply from PC.
i'll let you know if that works. keep in mind that power supplies such as ATX already have a set of currents such as 3V, 5V, and so on, so i'm going to use it as a power source for both my A550 (3.15V, 1A) and S3 (7.4V, 2A).

either way, i'm not going to pay canon huge amount of $$$ for such a simple device :P

My A580 camera works fine with 3V @ 1A and the 8$ adapter came with the proper connector type to power the camera.

My A550 camera works fine with 3V @ 1A from modified (broken) linksys router power adapter - stabilized 3V from 17V, 1000mA :)

No need to buy Canon, I bought from eBay, price was fair I think. $6.99US plus shipping, ($18.97US total, insured)
Seems to be a genuine Canon adaptor. Works well with my A720IS.

so, it seems that the idea of powering our cams through USB is... dead :D because of hardware limitations and ease of getting around this with some (more or less) standard power supplies.

 Well...how many USB ports are there on your pc. 3 on my hp laptop...  Can't I draw power from the two? Anyone know what that circuit would look like?

 Its doable from a single USB... You just might have to bring along a phone or mp3 player that charges via USB...

  You can draw around 5 volts from the USB... It should be doable. I'll do it when I get time. I need to find the things I need and I might post a link of it on utube or somewhere.

  What I mean about the cell phone is, you can tap into the charging circuit somewhere and draw voltage from the thing. A small microprocessor could do the job of the cell phone...or if you have an old cell phone that meets specs, just take the battery out and tap there at the battery leads.
