Parts for Powershot S3 IS?!

Well, here's the story: I had a small accident on my camera. The door closing the SD Card compartment is lost.  The metallic frame is still there intact but the plastic door (which is part of the body) is lost.  Without this door, the camera doesn't work due to the switch is activated when the door is closed.

So I contacted Canon agreed repair services and they don't want to sell me this small part.  They ask me to send them the camera, then they will perform a cost estimate, repair it if I agree and send it back.  Several repair services told me that it is the Canon policy that forbid them to sell parts of their devices.  As if we couldn't buy lamps, windshield wipers or whatever for our cars and had to go the garage and pay for the manpower for every little thing!

No need to say that it is worth to buy a new camera just because they don't want to sell a $10 part (at most), especially taking into account that there is no Canon agreed repair service in my country (Belgium), so I'd need to send the camera abroad!

An ugly solution would be to open the camera, and to shortcut the switch one way or another, and to live without that door.  Or even to put a drop of glue to keep this bloody switch pushed.

But I'd like much better to have a clean solution, of course.  I didn't find any S3 sold for parts on eBey yet (I don't want mine to be the next one  :-X) . Any idea where I could get this part? Or any other idea?

Any suggestion welcome.

PS: sarcasms forbidden.  :D

Broken digital cameras often sell for quite high prices on Ebay.

I would make a small plastic 'wedge' that will push the switch down and fit tightly in the slot.
Apply a tiny amount of superglue to secure it.
