Problems with color when importing a .dng into photoshop cs3

So I've gotten CHDK running on my powershot a590.  I've created a badpixel file and started shooting with .dng. It seems to work great when I import the resulting dngs into Picasa, however when I open the files in photoshop the colors are not even remotely correct and it is impossible to even dial the white balance back in to something usable. Also I still have hot pixels even though I have went and run the bad pixel script. Any advice on how to make a better badpixel file would be helpful. As a side note, has anyone successfully gotten the shutter speed override to get higher shutter speeds on the a590? Every shot I attempt with a high shutter speed results in an exposure of 1/2000. Also the custom ISO seems nearly impossible to get below 80, though I have magically gotten it to 10 on one shot somehow....... :)

are you sure ? don't forget the cam knows nothing about CHDK manipulating the shutter speed,
as soon as you use overrides the standard EXIF data can not be trusted ...

The image white balance curve never changes. It remains at the same consistent level. With higher exposure speeds it should get smaller as the CCD is being exposed to less light, but all of the exposures remain the same. I plan on playing with it some more with moving parts, but so far I was not convinced that it was exposing any faster. It seems possible to set arbitrary ISOs though the menu is not representative, for example if you set something below 10, like 7 with a factor of 1, it seems to bottom out at 10, but setting it at 10 does nothing and iso 80 is picked. I haven't been able to get 63 at all, but I did manage to get a shot with a reported ISO of 10 in the EXIF. This still doesn't really answer my question about photoshop and color. Viewing the DNG in picasa looks perfect with perfect color and good white balance when I get a good custom WB, however, importing the same DNG into CS3 results in really weird colors. I'll see if I can post some screenshots, though my desktop drive is starting to fail as I type this actually and I don't know how long the hardware ECC can keep correcting bad sectors........ =)

As a sidenote, I did just try installing the RAW plugin version 4 for CS3 (forgot it existed but remembered a friend suggested it) and the result is exactly the same. Clearly PS doesn't understand something in the color profile. Do I have to manually create a color profile for the camera for photoshop now?

By no means expert or even frequent user of PS, but i think there's 2 (maybe even more?) type of DNG specs
Could it be that PS, as program targetting professional users / more expensive camera's, automatically assumes a
DNG with the newest specs, and then defaults to standard WB/colors, because it doesn't find the info where it expects it ?

just a wild guess,

wim

I should add that I am just merely using the crw-->dng option in the CHDK firmware so the resulting DNG seems to have most of the EXIF data....

Maybe this is Adobe Camera RAW issue. When saturation slider is set to -50 image looks better (see attached screenshot 1.jpg).

Some investigations: I extracted "pure RAW" from CHDK DNG (using WinHex) and  converted it to DNG using latest version of DNG4PS2 (2.jpg). It seems that DNG4PS2 has better color matrix for A590 than CHDK.

edit: I will copy color matrix for A590 from DNG4PS2 to CHDK at next commit.
edit2: DNG4PS2 is alive.
