Cool! It's nice to see that "leave a comment" section. I'm SO tempted to correct his blatant errors. :) But I fear I couldn't be civil about it. (I tend to despise ignorance in others as much as I despise it in myself :D )

The copies of Canon firmware are definitely copyright violations.
You can take them for your own reverse-engineering, but you couldn't distribute them
Canon just tolerates us :-)

and, speaking about Canon losing or making money because of CHDK, I have a Sony DSC H2 but I am buying a Canon just to use CHDK on it !

If Canon does read this thread, then they should know that I've purchased 4 cameras in the last 2 months (2-SD850, S3, A550) ONLY because of CHDK.  I've sold one of my Nikon and Pentax P&S.  CHDK can only help them.  It can't really hurt them, as the DSLR crowd will still want the optics.
