CHDK Noob w/ alot of questions

Hi,

I have read the faqs and all, but I still have a few questions. I will be keeping my questions contained in this thread.  First off, this program is amazing and I want to thank you guys and gals in advanced.

But anyways, my first question is, i wanted to run a shutter speed at 5 just to mess around, but after i press the button shoot button, the script runs, i let it finish, but then what? when i push shoot again it just reruns the scripts. do i take it out of alt mode and shoot it like that? If so, i did and it definitely didnt feel like a 5 second exposure.

I also want to shoot HDRs for fun/testing just so I can improve on tone mapping. also, how do i adjust the f-stops etc?

When I also scroll up and down on the alt menu, the annoying standard cannon symbols show and blocks the view. is there a way to remove them?

It also seems that I cannot open the ".crw" files, is that a raw format? i cant open them in lightroom or photoshop.

My camera is a canon SD750 w/ the latest firmware i assume since i just downloaded it today.

Thanks in advanced!

1.) How did you set the shutter override, and what did the chdk OSD say? Something like "OVERRIDES: DISABLED"?
-> You need to set the shutter speed you want in the menu "Extra Photo Operations", leave alt mode, and shoot.
Pressing the shutter in alt mode, starts the currently loaded script, which in your case probably was the default script.

2.) Your camera does not have an aperture. Thus, you cannot change that. Anything else -> Extra Photo Operations -> Bracketing in Continuous mode. (Read the manuals to find out how to use the bracketing in continuous mode in more detail)

3.) No. Cant remote the Canon OSD symbols.

4.) I more and more get the impression that you didnt really read the "faqs and all".. Board "Raw Shooting and Processing", 2nd &3rd sticky thread: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,1532.0.html / http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,1390.0.html

Regards.

Thanks hacki. yes i def did not read all of the faqs :( but i am a bit confused i guess because i just tried saving them as ".cr2" and i have been able to open them and use lightroom on them, but now i am unable to on these files. BUT i did read that I will only be able to squeeze a little more quality out of the raws from this point and shoot, so i will just save them in jpg form from now on. the only real thing that i liked about the raw formats is the white balance, which i havent figured out how to adjust and i usually just leave it on auto white balance.

My overrides are enabled. under "disable overrides" i have "off"

when i still press shutter once, it runs the script, then when it says finished, i press shutter again and it just runs the script again.

If you don't want to run a script, just deactivate <ALT> mode (direct print button).

Use <ALT> button when accessing CHDK Menu or running scripts only.

Oh, I didn't know there was a long shutter script. Can you post it here for us to see it?
But as Hacki says, you might be running the "default" script which is a dummy one and it really does nothing.

I have the feeling that you are confusing the override operations of CHDK and its script capability. If you want to take a picture of 60 or 1/10,000 sec, you don't need a script. You should go to "Extra Photo Operations" on the main CHDK menu. There you can set shutter speed, aperture, ISO value etc. Just activate the "Value factor" (set it to 1) and select the desired "Override shutter speed". Then, you exit CHDK menu by pressing the <ALT> button. From that moment, you will get your chosen shutter speed every time you take a picture. But you DO NOT start any script; just take a snap like you'd normally do.

By the way, the aim of RAWs is not necessarily to obtain "more quality" compared with the JPG. I would say that you shoot a RAW picture when, for whatever reason, you want to do de postprocess yourself. For example, tweaking the white balance as you said.
