What do you mean "it starts in Play mode"?

You should be able to turn on the camera in any mode and get CHDK running.

Did you remember to lock your SD card?

I mean, that after pressing on power button (that usually eject lenses and goes to shooting mode)
it boots chdk but doesn't eject lens and goes to pics preview mode. That is the same like pressing Play button.

Something goes wrong then.

Sure. It does not boot without this.

Thanks! Pressing power button a bit longer and it startups in shooting mode.

This is a common question, so it should probably be added to the FAQ :)

Does anyone know offhand which cameras this applies to ? Is it all that have both a power button and a play button, rather than a mode switch and a single power button ?

I thought (based on the thread I linked above) that it isn't completely fixed. You still have to hold the button down longer ? But I don't have any of these cams, so really I have no idea what I'm talking about :D

Yes, that's the "fix" as i remember; the SDM "fix" (only in an older version) was a little autostart script.

A special autostart script mechanism (besides the normal autostart feature) could be a smart way to switch to playback mode & set up some settings (e.g. cont. mode or spot measuring mode), a substitute for a "C"ustom mode on cameras which don't have one, like the Ixus series...we have some feature requests laying around for these things...

The SD870 is one of the power-on-in-playback-mode-only models  ;)

IMO it cannot be fixed completely, because power button polling procedure is called too late if CHDK is loaded (added CHDK loading and camera reboot time). It is possible to "reverse" buttons behavior: if any of "on/off" or "playback" buttons is pressed shortly, camera powered on in record mode; if "playback" button is pressed longer, camera powered on in playback mode.

cant remember on which cams this was done though.
At least G7, G9, SX100.
