Hmmmm... sorry if I messed up on my first post.  Anyhow, here is an S2 IS image of a Dremel tool spinning at 30000 rpm. Calculated exposure was 1/8000 (with SYNCHED flash!) f3.5 and ISO 400. Amazing!  Many, many thanks to the developers who created this wonderful tool!

So, 30000 rpm means 500 rps (revolutions per second). For 1/8000 it should be 1/16 of circle filled. But the picture is much sharper.

Right, it doesn't compute.  The tool is rated at 30000rpm and was on the highest speed setting. Assuming the rpm is approximately correct does that imply an effective (flash and/or shutter) exposure of about 1/50,000th second?

Therefore, according to Barney Fife's comment, the flash light takes much shorter time than 1/8000s.
As proposed before in this thread, you should use very bright light instead of flash.

Well, it's not calibrated, but if you got an image (not using flash) at 1/1000, that should be a half-turn at 30k rpm. Using that as a reference (as 1/1000 is a 'supported' shutter speed), you should be able to calculate what the overridden speeds actually achieve.

That's what I was intending to do, and will test tomorrow night.

a picture of that spinning disk taken at a standard speed should have been taken like 1/2000 so you can tell the new speed compared to that, not compared to the theoretical speed of the dremel. I would assume that the camera's timing is more accurate than the dremel's speed rating.

hello  :) I am using CHDK version pre14.grand148.md.cln.zsm-a630-100c-124 on my A630, and in the raw menu are 5 (the first 5) menu options that don't have labels.  what are the labels supposed to be?

I fooled around with fingalo's build 128. It looks like the A620 is capable to shutter speeds up to between 1/32100 and 1/40500.

how do I get lower times than (the relative) 1/10000? what's the script? cause I believe my camera can do even lower than that.
