Hi, i have loaded CHDK on two camera's ,the S3 IS and the A590. i an trying to lengthen the capture time on both. the A590 runs for three minutes, then shuts down and the S3 runs for an hour and shuts down.both cameras have 2gb cards installed and locked. i have tried settings and read the manual for chdk and have not found how to correct this. any help is appreciated.

Anyone have any insights?

According to the canon specs, the a590 should be able to record up to 4gb in a single file, while the s3 is limited to 1g or 1 hour, whichever comes first.

So the S3 is functioning as it should, while the a590 is definitely not. Do you see a red ! before the a590 shuts down ? If so, that means your card isn't keeping up, or you've set the video overrides too high. You can try reducing compression (using the video override settings) or resolution (using canon options). Or get a faster card.

Hi,thank-you for your reply. i am using a 2GB sandisk ultra II card in the a590..i tried different bitrate settings with the same outcome.i have also tried it in standard and compact settings both with or without chdk running..what happens is that the timer counts up to two minutes and fifty seconds and turns from white to red and then when it reaches three minutes, it beeps and stops recording, this happens with or without chdk loaded i do not see a red ! at anytime during the three minutes.i have also tried different cards...no luck so far.

Then perhaps you should contact canon customer service.

thanks...i read over the canon manual and it states that it should record until the card runs out or the maximum record time runs out..cant find the max record time though.

See the a590 specs here:

Quote
Movie: 640 x 480 (20 fps/20 fps LP), 320 x 240 (30 fps) available up to 4GB or 60 minutes, 160 x 120 (3 minutes at 15 fps)
I'm not sure what the deal is with the last bit (3min @15 fps), the following table appears to indicate that it's limited by space.
