Should you cycle new batteries? How many times?

I have a total of six new Eneloop batteries coming from Amazon.  I'm going to be using them for intervalometer sessions where battery life may be important.  I've heard it takes a few charge/discharge cycles before NiMH batteries perform at full capacity.  I don't understand why, in electro-chemical terms, that should be the case, but I wonder if anyone here has actually noticed such an effect.  And if so, how many cycles does it take to get the batteries to full capacity?

I have two 10 ohm 10W resistors, and if my math is right I could discharge two cells, in series, through the two resistors in parallel, and that would be a discharge current of about 500ma, which I understand is roughly one camera equivalent.  So it would be relatively easy to do a few cycles if that's really beneficial.

I certainly don't think you should cycle Eneloops. They come fully charged and can be cycled 1000 times before they need to be replaced, so cycling them will just hasten their replacement.

There's nothing on the offficial spec page to indicate that cycling is a good idea - see http://us.sanyo.com/Batteries/About-Eneloop-Batteries
