snc - thanks for the help!

unfortunately it is the same as the second build the camera goes black but no splash screen and camera works as normal from factory.

that's weird. i've rolled back the changes made between those 2 versions, so it should be working. are you using the auto-boot method or firmware update? send me a private message for some debugging, if you are interested. otherwise, it seems pretty stuck, and id remove the port... not much to do w/o having the camera.

try this file. as soon as you start the firmware upgrade process, the blue printer LED should start to blink. please count exactly how often it does and report back...

-Put the files into root of 32mb, FAT sd card.
-Press play.
-Blue LED blinks six (6) times.
-I'm available for realtime development.  (I assume this board has priv msg?)

I tried a port myself.  I did the autodetect stubs thing, and the result is it just crashes.  Is it possible to downgrade the firmware then using the working chdk?  What are the minimum stubs needed to boot?  It seems we should correct the stubs needed as first.
Can you post the disassembly so we don't need to buy ida pro?
ps starting from scratch it only took a couple hours to attempt my first port!

I can boot as far as platform\ixus970_sd890\boot.c boot().  Post a disassembly, neither ida pro demo nor biew are working.  I can't go much further without getting lost.
It also seems like those stubs not found, could be easier rewritten - just copy asm from a known version (fw 1.00c) for example to turn on backlight.  This is assuming hardware is the same; and the function is so simple that you don't have to replicate redundantly too much of the old FW.
