if really nothing happens, then you have forgotten to HOLD DOWN Func/Set while pressing DISP

Thanks for the quick response!

I am holding down the set button and pressing the disp button but NOTTING happens

even with a card created by the applescript (got that to work) nothing!

added problem is that my camera won,t even start on a locked card

so I'm stuck!

Have you also read this (i put the important part in bold)
(from http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac)
Quote
The first requirement is to identify the exact firmware revision of the destination camera.

    * Insert an SD card into a card reader attached to your Mac.
    * Using a basic text editor (TextEdit), make an empty file called ver.req in the root of the SD card.

       1. File -> Save As...
       2. Name the file ver.req
       3. For Plain Text Encoding, select "Unicode (UTF-8)"
       4. Unclick 'If no extension is provided, use ".txt".'
       5. Copy the saved script to the root of the SD card.

    * Insert the card into the camera.
    * With the camera switched to playback mode, turn on the camera.
    * While holding the Function/Set button, press Display.

Ok, then there's always the brute force approach:

you just try all 4 CHDK versions for your cam until one works ...

BTW what card are you using (size, i mean)

OK, so it's not a card size problem....

So, it looks like your options are

1) brute force (see previous post)  in this case you only need to D/L the small versions from http://mighty-hoernsche.de/
    just try them 1 by 1 and then D/L the full version of the one that works.

2) find a Windows PC, download CardTricks (see my signature) and use it to format the card
    ver.req will then automatically be written to the card.

@PhyrePhox

i believe you, but the prob might well have to do with this ABOMINATION of
operating systems wanting to 'protect' you from 'dangerous' downloads.
(and, for the record Windows is as obnoxious in this respect as Mac)
