Stupid Question:
Why not ask Canon (Who watches and promote this SW) for the dump?  I believe if one of the moderators ask them directly, they will be too happy to oblidge...

Where and how does Canon promote CHDK ? That would certainly be news to us!

Although I believe that CHDK is ultimately beneficial for Canon (people undeniably buy canon cameras because of it), I definitely wouldn't suggest bothering them about CHDK. One PHB taking a negative view of the project could have very bad results.

In any case, a dump is only the start. As I said in my previous post, a developer needs to have the camera. Someone with the time and skill to make port could make a dump based on what we've done so far.

Don't forget what the H stands for.

Regarding Canon:
Do a search on G**gle and you will find references by Canon regarding the CHDK SW.  Not only that, the SW is being discussed by Canon themselves through blogs, sales staff and forum discussions.

I have even seen people asking for the SW at the official Nikon site!  So, reading all the 'blurbs' regarding the SW, Canon is in full knowlege regarding CHDK...  (I bet they are even watching this topic very closely :))

Back to the topic:
I have downloaded some of the SW to extract the Firmware and will see what I can do to help...  The documentation regarding the steps to take is a bit vague and could be more concise.  That said, it is great that people take so much interest in HW in today's day and age to get into the nitty-gritty of things!

Cheers

i regularly search google for references to chdk. there even is a special thread i created solely for the purpose of collecting "media references" of chdk. to this day, i never found something close to what you just described. the only two occasions that come to my mind are the ones where canon told a customer that chdk is safe to use (but this isnt confirmed and also likely to be a mistake by a tech support telephone person) and one time we have had support by someone working @ canon (but he was doing it in private, as a hobby so to speak).
if you find that links again, please post em at the media thread here.

Links please.

I've seen CHDK mentioned by customers in reviews on canons site, but that's it.

If you mean udumper (possibly via cardtricks) it is already known that these do not work on the sx200. This is all discussed earlier in the thread.

If there is other software, please give us a link.

@Akkarin, nakam
unfortunately, it doesn't matter how many people want it or how nice the camera is. What is needed is a developer with the skill, time and motivation who has the camera.
Yeah of course. I just wanted to show my support so that people with the skill can find motviation for it. I myself tried to extract the firmware the way described in the wiki, but with no result and due to limited skills of my own I probably cannot contribute any more...

Hi guys.
Reading through other posts and finding similarities have kept me going for the last couple of days.

What I have seen/found:
1. SX10 port guidelines was used to port the SD880.
2. The SD880 uses DIGIX4 and DRYOS.
3. The AF LED for the SX200 is on the same address as for the SD880/IXUS870

Will this not help in porting the system?  I see the changes in addresses for some of the other LED's is very small.

My Q: What did the SD880 guys use to dump the OS?  The simmilarities is so close, maybe one of the porters should ask the SD880 guys what they did?

Cheers

ps - I wrote to mweerden (porter of the SD880) to request some assistance on how he got the OS dumped/pointers...

AFAIK udumper works on SD880, just like on the SX10 and older cams. The stumbling block with SX200 (and other new digic IV cams) right now is that it does not. However, with the work done so far, a motivated person could blink it the old fashioned way.

The request that udumper sends to the camera is incorrect.  Where do I find the source to have a look at what it requests?  (The address it accesses is not correct, I believe it should be a differnet one...)

Also, the G10/D10 seems to be of the same DIXIG4 generations of OS's.  Could someone not look at how the G10 OS was ported?  There is a downloadable update for the G10, which should help.  I also noticed (and asked them to join us) the D10 guys are having the same kind of dumping problems.  This could only point to the OS's of the 2 cameras being the same...
